Learn more about Argentina Slide 1: Argentina; Where is it? Argentina is located in South America, bordering Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia! Image: map depicting location of Argentina Slide 2: Population; Argentina's population, reported in 2020, was 45,195,774 people! About half of that population lives in their capital city Buenos Aires! Around 95% of those populating this country are white, most likely descending from Spanish heritage. Mestizos, those wh...o are white and Native, now only make up a little under 5% of the population. Native people, such as those from Mapuches, Collas, Tobas, Matacos and Chiriguanos tribes, make up less than 1% of the population. Slide 3: Current Events; Coming into the New Year, Argentina became the largest Latin American country to legalize abortion! This was in the works since the 1980s, but it was not until 2015 when the "Ni Una Menos" ("not one less") movement sparked more attention; this was because Argentina had reported that "dozens of women die every year seeking abortions" (NYT). In 2019, Argentinians were denied the right to freely have an abortion after strong interference & lobbying by the Catholic Church. Fortunately, it is now a landmark vote that will never be forgotten. "Think more about how fulfilling your goals sound to you. Are you doing things for yourself or are you doing things because you think you are supposed to? Always remember that you should be caring for yourself just as much as you are caring for others. This world is a mess but you can make it a little better by doing the things that actually make you happy." See more
