Stelara for #Crohns IBD is now approved by the FDA This week the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves use of ustekinumab (Stelara, Janssen) for the use in treatment of Crohn's disease patients who are moderate to severely active. Stelara is used for patients who have previously failed or non-responsive to immunomodulator or corticosteroid therapy, but have not failed treatment with a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker. For the mechanism of action, Stelara is is th...e first biologic therapy that targets Interleukin-12/23 cytokines, and aims to disrupt those signaling cascades which lead to inflammatory and immune responses.
