Financial Legacies: Slavery and the History of Banking The 1619 Project charts the impact of slavery on the country’s founding principles, economy, health care system, racial segregation of neighborhoods and schools, popular music and visual representations. Conversations around the 1619 project have served as a flashpoint for intensive ideological debates about its content and impact. It has been both widely lauded and subjected to critiques from academics, journalists, pund...its and policymakers who challenge its accuracy and its interpretation of history. Tonight we discuss slavery’s impact on black economic empowerment and neighborhood segregation. Come and join our Inaugural Latinx Heritage Month Keynote Speaker, Dr. Gina Garcia, who is the leading expert on Hispanic Serving Institutions, on October 21st will spend the day with us virtually. She will be leading the day with a keynote titled Transforming Hispanic Serving Institutions followed by two workshops. The workshops are limited in numbers. We will end the week on Thursday, October 22nd with a webinar collaboration with the Chicano/Latino Studies Department, titled, "Afro-Latinidades in Central America."
