This is a really interesting personal story about one woman's #ADHD journey: "There are many women like me: lost girls, so we’ve been called. Chaotic and curious, sometimes we feel like superheroes; other times, super-failures. It’s not always a lack of interest that makes it hard for us to process information, but our brain’s desire to absorb so much of it. We are jacks of many trades, purveyors of information, collectors of hobbies, beginners of tasks and finishers of few. And we all have similar stories of missed red flags that haunt us." http://ow.ly/Yg2Z50FaYZu
We had so many great questions from viewers during this Facebook Live about ADHD! Did you catch it? The MIND Institute's Meghan Miller, an expert in the early detection of #ADHD, shared tips and the latest research. https://youtu.be/9_ri2cO9Bzo
Our featured study is the TEDI Study (Telehealth Evaluation of Development for Infants). The goal of the TEDI study is to develop a way to assess infants’ development over telehealth, so that families do not always need to travel to a clinic to get a developmental evaluation. We will follow babies over time to see how they develop and get ongoing feedback from families about their experience. https://studypages.com/s/tedi-telehealth-evaluation-of-de/
Thanks for a great Fall Festival and drive-through trunk-or-treat! We had about 100 families attend, along with dozens of volunteers. Thanks to the NorCal Challengers for bringing their wonderful cars with festive decorations. We were thrilled to be able to offer a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating during the pandemic. Happy Halloween!
When parents receive their kid’s #autism diagnosis, they typically ask: what kind of #treatment should I seek and for how many hours per week? said Sally J. Rogers, professor emeritus of #psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the UC Davis MIND Institute. Rogers and her team found that the two most prominent early #intervention models show very similar impacts on toddlers with autism, whether delivered at 15-hours or 25-hours per week intensities. Where will the next pandemic come from? As more people move into wild habitats around the world, they can come in contact with viruses that circulate in wild animals, such as Ebola or coronaviruses. These new viruses could bring new pandemics.
COVID-19 has been difficult for many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities because they often depend on others for assistance in their daily lives. The MIND Institute is working to provide resources and support. http://ow.ly/cKAd50BZlzU
