On June 15, the California Department of Public Health lifted most of the COVID-19 restrictions in the state. But after 15 months of stay-at-home orders, mandatory masks and social distancing, are we ready to pivot and return to the behaviors that used to be normal? https://health.ucdavis.edu//managing-your-re-entry/2021/06 #COVID19 #reentryanxiety #anxietymanagement #UCDavisHealth

Nine-month-old conjoined twins Abigail and Micaela Bachinskiy are recovering at UC Davis Children's Hospital after surgeons successfully separated them in a marathon surgery on Oct. 23 and 24. High-tech preparation for the surgery included the 3D printing (3DPrintViz) of multiple models of the twins’ fused skulls. The models allowed the team to plan and practice the surgery with a high degree of precision. https://health.ucdavis.edu//rare-set-of-conjoined-/2020/10

Meet the Residents! Megan Morisada is a PGY-3 who joins us from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and completed her undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University. She says We work hard and are constantly challenged to get better but working with this amazing group of co-residents that have become family makes it so much more fun! Let us know what you think! Are you looking forward to having your medical records more accessible? > Patients have always had the right to access their medical records. This change simply makes the information easier for patients to view. In this case, patients will see the clinical information via the MyUCDavisHealth (formerly MyChart) portal. Most test results lab, radiology, and procedures will also be shared with patients when finalized. https://health.ucdavis.e...du//patients-to-get-easier/2020/10 #opennotes #patientrecords #myucdavishealth #ucdavishealth #patientcare

Happy Friday! As Pediatric Week wraps up, we wanted to take a moment to tell our pediatric nurses how much we appreciate all the ways they go above and beyond to take care of our young patients! They provide a seamless transition from inpatient to outpatient care and work to ensure the families are supported throughout the entire process. We see you, and appreciate your efforts every day. #pediatricnursesweek #peds #pedsOto #pediatricENT #ucdavischildren #ucdoto #ucdavishealth #sentac #aspo @americancleftpalate @aerodigestivesociety @ucdavischildren

COVID-19 restrictions halted many medical procedures during the earlier months of the pandemic. During this time, many patients were left without the ability to voice after undergoing total laryngectomy surgery. With the use of writing, gesturing, and texting, patients creatively communicated while waiting for a procedure to restore their voice and ability to speak. The team of UC Davis Laryngologists and Speech Pathologists reconfigured protocols to perform the voice restora...tion procedure safely during this unprecedented time. In June 2020, five patients received a tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, a device that diverts pulmonary airflow into the upper esophagus to produce sound. Long awaited, patients were able to speak to their loved ones for the first time after several months. As our team witnessed the outpouring of joy from our patients and their families, it provided an emotional reprieve in otherwise challenging times. #voicesrestored #pandemic #covid19 #laryngectomy #speechpathology #laryngology #patientcare #qualityoflife #newvoice #essential #voicerestoration #ucdavishealth #ucdENT

I’m hopeful that what teachers and parents have learned about this process doesn’t go away when we go back to in-person education, because it’s a really nice byproduct and something that could be a good outcome from this.
