A paper published in Pediatric Emergency Care highlights how simulation is beneficial in helping learners identify and report hazards in the ED. In a simulated activity, Ian Julie medical director for UC Davis Health Center for Simulation and Education Enhancement said participants were able to identify safety hazards at comparable rates. Dr. Rory Stuart speaks about his recent military experience in Afghanistan and working as a lead emergency medicine physician while planning a #COVID19 response.

This is Dr. Rory Stuart, emergency medicine physician and Air Force Lt. Colonel. In Fall 2019, Stuart was deployed to be the lead emergency physician at Bagram Airfield in Northern Afghanistan, a NATO airbase controlled by American forces. He was scheduled to return home in April, but with the outbreak of #covid19 his homecoming was delayed. Dr. Stuart and his team had to build a plan to protect about 15,000 U.S. military personnel as well as NATO forces, diplomats, and contr...actors working on the base - about 50,000 people in total. They took drastic measures to keep everyone safe with an immediate quarantine and shutting down all gathering spaces. By the end of June, medical operations were stable and before returning home, Stuart was awarded the Bronze Star for his hard work battling #covid19.
