We believe we have not yet identified every possible child survivor of 9/11. During the September 11 attacks, 2,996 people were killed: 2,977 victims and 19 of the perpetrators. These immediate deaths included 246 victims on the four planes, 2,606 victims inside the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 victims at the Pentagon. If you know of child who lost a parent that day, and they are under the age of 24, they may still be eligible for mental health care and education benefits. Tell us and we'll take it from there.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the U.S. Navy Seal KIA in Iraq. He was there for us. We will be there for his children, if any.
REMEMBER OKLAHOMA CITY America will never forget the horror of the Oklahoma City bombing, 21 years ago today. #GodBlessAmerica
Part of the recovery process from a trauma is weaving it back into a new story that’s coherent. - Dr. Craig Katz, Psychiatrist, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. #Surviving911 http://exhibits.tributewtc.org///stories/survivor-stories/
From our Values and Guiding Principles: We must be as efficient and cost-effective as possible, maintain a minimum of professional and support staff to ensure proper execution of operations and policies, and be frugal at all times; this will help ensure the children receive as much assistance as possible.
For visitors, memorials let them experience history in a very personal fashion. For our beneficiaries, 9/11 remains a part of their daily lives. Nearly a quarter of all 9/11 child survivors are still in school. The greatest memorials we can raise to the victims of 9/11 are their children.
From the files of the TTOF: Andrea suffered from major depressive disorder due to unresolved grief over the death of her father. She had to be hospitalized three times in one year. Her mother turned to TTOF for help because the costs were astronomical and her insurance only covered 50 percent of the billed amount. Overcoming her mental health issues was imperative if Andrea hoped to attend college. TTOF assisted with Andrea’s mental health bills and contributed to her higher education by releasing funds from her 529 account when she started attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Andrea is now 20 years old and doing much better as she studies toward a BA in Fine Arts.
The Twin Towers Orphan Fund extends its heart-felt sympathies and deepest condolences to the family and friends -- and to the Belgium people -- for their losses on this day of tragedy. We offer our hopes, prayers and best wishes for those injured and for their speedy recoveries.
Just in case you didn't know ... The Twin Towers Orphan Fund, founded on Sept. 12, 2001, is a program of the Children's Fund of America a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, public benefit organization, Fed. Tax ID# 57-1197371. www.ttof.org All donations are fully tax-deductible
Our beneficiaries include more than 1,200 children in 26 states and territories. Yet, vital to the strength of the TTOF are continued gifts of all sizes. With your gift, you will help rebuild futures, one child at a time. The financial assistance they receive is significant today, but small compared to the benefits they will reap in their future. Your help today will have a direct impact on restoring a child's hope, repairing a child's life and reviving a child's spirit. Your help today will rebuild a child's future.
We are grateful, thankful and appreciative for all those who have shown loving hearts, kind efforts and sincere generosity towards the smallest victims, the children who lost parents. Thank you for your support; we honor your compassion and contributions. We have done much, and we will do more. Please join us in continuing to create brighter, more hopeful futures one child at a time.
Will never forget our visit.
