COVID public announcement: July 16, 2020 Big shout out to all of our wonderful clients at Twain Harte Veterinary Hospital. It’s been so great seeing all of your masked faces for the last few weeks. The frightening reality is that our COVID case load in Tuolumne County is rising at a frightening pace. The virus is much more of an issue in our community today, than it was in March/April. It’s with a heavy heart that our practice has decided to return to curbside services only. By mid next week, we will have an intercom system near the side door for check in and easier communication. However, most of the communications will be done via telephone as before. We appreciate all of your understanding during these times. The team at Twain Harte Veterinary Hospital is committed to the health and safety of pets and people of our community.

June 2020 Client COVID announcement: Happy June, to all our faithful clients. We hope you are all doing well during these challenging times in our society. We greatly appreciate each and every one of you. All your understanding, and kind words across distant phone lines during these times have been so encouraging. Great news! Last week, Banks Glass installed a beautiful barrier around our reception cubicle for everyone’s safety. As of this week, Monday June 15th, we wil...l start allowing clients back inside the hospital! Gosh we have missed all of you so much! There will be some social distancing/safety guidelines we kindly ask you all to oblige. Please, no more than two human family members per pet visit. As you enter the lobby, there will be four social distancing stations. These will be clearly delineated and marked near each bench. Please approach the front glass one at a time. If you prefer our curbside service, we will still be able to accommodate your family this way. Simply, call the front desk when you arrive if you prefer curbside check in. Please wear a mask at all times inside the hospital. Try to bring your own, however, we will have clean & sterilized masks for clients to borrow if needed. There will be two baskets in the lobby - one for clean masks, one for used masks. Once inside the exam room, please try to stay on one side of the exam table. Doctors and nurses will do our best to oblige a 6 ft social distance space. However, we realize that under not all circumstances will this be possible. For most instances, doctors and nurses will enter the exam room and discuss your pets condition. Then we will examine and give treatments to your your beloved babies in the back. Again, this is for everyone’s safety and we appreciate your continued understanding. If all of our social distancing stations are full, you might be asked to wait briefly outside. We understand it is getting hot, and will try to make outdoor wait times as brief as possible. We will have complimentary cold water bottles, and packaged snacks available for your enjoyment. We cannot wait to see all your smiling eyes! As your smiles will still be underneath masks! Either way we are all very excited!

Thank you for your continued patronage despite all the COVID madness. We have been doing our best with flooded phone lines and longer wait times in your vehicles. Here’s our plan during phase two re-opening covering the remainder of May and early June. We are working on having glass windows for the lobby/reception cubicle installed. Unt...il this project is complete, which we are hoping ~June 1st, pet parents will be asked to remain outside in their vehicles during their pet’s visit. We thank you so much for your patience with this. Routine visits such as annual exams/vaccines and all spay/neuter surgeries are welcome during this time! Another announcement regarding further policy changes during the weeks of June/July will be announced soon. We also plan to reopen for our Saturday hours 9am-1pm beginning June 6th! During the COVID-19 pandemic, your veterinary health care team is trying their best. They are tired, but they are trying their best. The receptionists are tryi...ng their best. They are asking you new strange questions like what kind of car you have or can you pay via credit card over the phone. They are hearing your frustration about longer than normal phone holding time. They understand that your dog doesn’t want to wait in the car but keep reassuring you that you are all safest there. The technicians are trying their best. They are running pets in and out to your car while still completing treatments, filling medications, and answering calls. They are working with all available personal protective equipment. Right now that means home made masks and lab coats and disposable gloves that have been washed and sterilized a few times, as our human health care colleagues needed our supplies. They are answering the questions you forgot to ask the receptionist and doctor while they were on the phone. And they are doing everything with a positive attitude because they want to show you they know your pet is important and needs care. Your veterinarian is trying her best. She’s been working shifts with a skeleton crew to keep her team members safe. She is seeing your pet without you in the hospital to limit exposure to both your family and her team. She’s communicating with you via phone after every step of your pet’s visit, and she knows your financial situation may be different this week than last, so she’s making treatment plans that are best for your pet while also staying within your means. Your veterinarian is answering call after call about both essential and non-essential pet health care needs. She’s heard your frustration that a call took longer than normal to be returned, and she’s trying her best to get back to everyone as quickly as possible while also treating sick and injured pets. She is trying to keep you home when feasible by giving medical advice based on pictures and videos, which is challenging and goes against her every principle of the importance of a full physical exam. She’s had to deliver news about terminal diagnoses over the phone, and when she euthanized a pet earlier today, she had to wear a mask and gloves and stand 6 feet away. She couldn’t hug the grieving family or stroke the pet’s soft ears for one last time. She’s not sure if that family saw that their pet’s loss hurt her, too, and she understands and feels their grief. She is tired, but she is trying her best. Please stay home and stay safe. If your pet needs veterinary care, please be patient and kind when you reach out to your veterinary team. They are trying their best.
