Our customer highlight this month belongs to one of our faves, Mitzie Schamel. "As a child, I was intrigued with sunsets and would create decoupage art from beautiful scenery pictures that I cut out from paper calendars. It’s not surprising that one of the genres of photos I enjoy taking today are landscapes. Moreover, I always remember bringing a camera on family trips to capture what new locations offer, it’s not surprising that my passion today is travel photography.... As an adult, I lived in Colorado for a 7 year period. I began spending a lot of time honing in on my photography skills there. There were spectacular sunrises and sunsets to catch at every season. Not only were there beautiful landscapes, but as an animal lover, there were many opportunities to photograph wildlife such as fox, deer, elk, wild turkeys, and even rattlesnakes! This was one of my favorite things to do. Since relocating back to Southern Ca., I still love to adventure in the outdoors and frequently hike the many trails and nature reserves, photographing birds, wildlife, nature, and landscapes. I enjoy traveling to new parts of the country to photograph the variety of culture, scenery, and animals. I am always looking for new trails to explore, and to hike to places that have a lot of history to see, such as old mines or movie filming sights. It’s also fun to dabble into other areas of photography such as water and oil, and taking close ups of the moon. The great enjoyment I take from photography is experiencing and documenting moments of emotion, awe, compassion, and beauty. The photos you see illustrate the Emotion of a House Wren singing his heart out, the Awe of the wing pattern of a Red Tail Hawk seen directly from above, the Compassion I feel when seeing the intent glare in the eyes of a caged Mexican wolf that longs for his freedom, and the Beauty I see in the Rocky landscapes of Sedona, Arizona.
