The main Kiosk area and tee boxes at holes #1 through #10 + #18 and their bridges are shovelled. The snow is still pretty deep with lots of bent over bushes to eat your disc. I'll try to get to the other 7 tee's tomorrow. Lots of pictures here so you can see the conditions.
It's going to take some warm weather and time before I get out there to shovel. I'll let you know when things improve.
We had about a foot of snow last night at Turtle Rock. I will not be shoveling during this series of storms. Please don't step on T-pads. I'll get to them when the weather improves. Enjoy the powder.
There's some pretty treacherous footing after rain ended with sleet and freezing temperatures yesterday. Lots of mud between the ice patches too, so be careful out there.
Once again just 1"-2" of snow. All Tee's are shoveled. Be careful of ice hiding under the snow especially near the bridges.
It's still looking good here at TRP. Just a little rain last night.
Baskets have been moved to winter friendly positions. That doesn't always mean short, it has more to do with factors like where the snow collects, which spots get wet and muddy, and is the position on the way to the next tee. If the weather stays nice we will keep moving some baskets but the options are more limited in winter. Enjoy.
The course is looking good all the way around. Just an inch or so of quickly melting snow.
Original Tee replacement at #11 is complete. Alternate Tee needs some finishing touches before it can be used, like signs, benches, and rubber pad. It should be ready to use by next week. A big Thanks to Dave Peets and Scott Robbins for coming out and helping me on Wednesday .
Turtle Rock is being impacted by smoke from the Slink Fire near Walker CA. Airnow doesn't have a monitor at TRP but can give you reading within a few miles. Basically, be prepared for anything while the slink fire burns.
Rain yesterday made a big difference here. Snow is off the bushes and is down to 2"-3" of dirty granular snow on the fairways, so finding discs hasn't been a problem today. I left the baskets in their long positions as set for the last day of the tournament. I'll keep them there for a couple weeks... unless a big snow storm is forecast.
A couple discs found while shovelling at Turtle Rock today.
Water is back on.
More trail work today. Three rock water bars built to divert water. They stop erosion and create steps climbing the hill from the baskets on #8 up to the 9th Tee. The trail is much easier to navigate now.
The water spigot at the first tee has been temporarily locked, and the campground is under a boil water notice. Please bring all the fresh water you need with you to TRP until further notice.
Who ever left their shop vac attachment next to our donation pole please comment on this post to get what you deserve. On a side note...your donations are safe. Since our break in a few years back we have welded in multiple layers of protections from theft. Just make sure the bills get past the lip immediatly inside the pole (a peek inside the slot will tell you) and they will drop past everything to the bottom. Our donation pole is emptied frequently.
Yeah... even though Turtle Rock is at 6000' it's hot and dry out there. Millberry Creek has stopped running for the season so bring water for your dogs as well as yourself. Remember you can refill your water or get to bathrooms from hole #10 & #15 by taking a short walk down the designated paths to the campground facilities. There is also easy access back to parking from the 9th Tee. Besides that, we continue to do maintenance and upgrades so the course is in good shape. Please, Please, Please be fire aware. Thanks.
Here's some good news for all you campers!
A couple of additions at Turtle Rock for dog owners. Well, actually for everyone that walks or plays the course. Please deposit dog waste bags in appropriate receptacles located next to the main kiosk and on hole #10. Thanks!
Found, new orange disc with black rim, no name, on hole one. Message me or comment and identify to get it returned.
Please use link below to get current updates for activities in Alpine County. Although TRP is currently open the Sheriff's department is taking the stay at home order very seriously. Be aware that changes to policies are happening daily with Alpine County having its first positive case of covid yesterday. https://www.alpinecountyca.gov/
If you need a place to get out and walk, the county road dept. plowed the campground loop. The kiosk area (and front 9) are shovelled so the bathroom and picnic table are easy to get to.
