Narcolepsy, the next pandemic? I have been concerned about what I think may be an outbreak of Narcolepsy in the Central Valley. This outbreak has three prominent symptoms I’ve observed! Drivers are apparently falling asleep at red lights, hands in their laps with chin on their chests! I have to honk to wake them when the light turns green. Please try to get more sleep and see your doctor if you’re falling asleep at traffic signals.... I’m spoofing! I know their not asleep, just distracted by a phone.

Same difference I taught two brothers less than a year apart in age to drive awhile back. The younger one I believe had watched his parents drive and committed to memory much of how traffic flows and the basic operation of an automobile. The older brother on the other hand I believe had set in the back seat and looked uninterested out the side window. The contrast teaching them back to back was stark as you can imagine. Sometimes I think when looking around today we are raising some youngsters that are playing with ipads, ipods, smart phones etc and are unaware of where they are and how they got there, when it comes time for these youngsters to start driving many will be like the uninterested older brother. Talk to your kids about driving. Good driving requires thinking, start that process young.

School is back in session! We’ve had a couple scares recently with students being struck by a vehicle both before and after school. Please be vigilant when driv...ing in a school zone. Also, a few reminders for pedestrians: Look left-right-left when crossing the street. Continue looking for cars as you cross. Use crosswalks whenever possible, preferably at stop signs or signals. Make eye contact with drivers. Make sure they see you before crossing the street. Walk with friends or a group. Let’s finish the school year on a safe note! #TUSD

Icy Windshields, I have seen some of you driving early in the morning with ice still on your car windows and some with ice on the windshield. C’MON MAN! A little warm water on car windows and mirrors increase visibility. It only takes a few seconds to do and once again it could save you some heartache. Use a plastic milk carton or juice container, anything will work.
