Tulare and Kings County Communities: Tulare-Kings Veterinary Emergency Services will be open for business starting tonight Wednesday 11/27/2019 at 5pm. Please note that we will have limited functions but will do our best to see critical emergencies throughout the rest of this holiday week.... We do ask that everyone please be kind and patient to all staff as they are not to blame for any of these issues. We had multiple pieces of equipment ruined from all of the IT issues this week starting with the power outage last Sunday that then compounded into the Ransomware attack found on Thursday morning. Due to this, we are opening with limited equipment which may cause very extended wait times. If you have any urgent personal business that may create stress for you to wait at our hospital then the best suggestion would be for you to contact a Fresno or Bakersfield hospital and let them handle your case. Warmest wishes for the holidays! Sincerely, Belinda Martin, Practice Manager

We would like to introduce Bree. Bree is a 10 year old German Shepherd who was a patient with us on Saturday 09/02/2017 due to having a Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus also called a Bloat. Bree had a bloated abdomen and was retching white foam in the exam room. Bree was taken back into the treatment area for x-rays and it was determined that she needed surgery immediately. During surgery it was discovered that when her stomach flipped it had cut off circulation to her spleen for too long and her spleen had to be removed. Bree recovered well from surgery and was happily reunited with her owner after two days in the hospital.

Chiquita was a patient with us on 08/26/2017 due to having Eclampsia. Eclampsia is an emergency medical condition associated with a life-threatening drop in blood calcium levels that occurs in nursing mothers. Chiquita has been nursing four puppies for around two weeks. Chiquita was brought in for emergency treatment due to her having tremors and heavily panting. Chiquita presented with a 105 degree temperature, dark pink/red gums, and an elevated heart rate. Chiquit...a was in a critical state and needed life saving treatments immediately. Chiquita was started on injectable calcium gluconate, dextrose injections due to her being hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), and fluids. Chiquita recovered well and was sent home later in the evening. Chiquita will no longer be able to nurse her puppies and will need the help of her owner to bottle feed them until they can be weaned to solid foods. See more

Tyson is an 11 year old boxer that was a patient with us this weekend. Tyson’s owner had noticed that he was pacing, dry heaving, and had a bloated abdomen about one hour after having dinner. Tyson was in a very critical state due to having a Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus or Bloat. This can be caused by eating a large meal which causes the stomach to dilate with gas and then the stomach rotates or twists on its axis. The rotation can lead to blockage in the blood sup...ply to the spleen and the stomach and does not allow the patient to expel gas of vomitus. Tyson was very critical and required immediate stabilization and surgery to decompress his stomach and to physically flip his stomach back into its normal position to get blood flowing to critical parts of his body. We would like to thank his owner Ashley for allowing us to share his story! See more
