It’s A New Day, with thanks to Nina Simone Reconsideration, repurposing, recalibration, call it what you like, for artists Julia Couzens, Richard Hoblock, and Farzad Kohan, it is an ongoing process. Layering, marking, moving the paint (the eye never rests), weaving, wrapping, scraping (the hand keeps active), a cyclical loop of rediscovery. Thrilled to announce Crossroads, Crossing, and Convergence July 21 through August 21. . Crossroads Crossing and Convergence 1 is an exhibition with a unique, non-traditional curatorial process--inspired by the conversations between two female immigrants who have lived in the same countries, with different upbringings, and now occupy different positions in the art world. These two women (an artist and an art dealer) are by nature motivated to explore the impact of the LA community on female immigrant artists and the influences of these artists on the LA art scene at large. The exhibition will include a series of dialogues between and amongst female art professionals.

Intriguing new piece by Diane Holland. - Having been trained in painting and printmaking as well as intermedia, and having previously used electrotransfer (that is, color Xerography), my studio practice now involves advanced forms of drawing and collage as well as photographic printing (most recently Fujiflex and metallic Kodak Endura) to interpret the relationship that develops between human beings and the media artifacts they create. The series of images entitled "Somatic ...Telesthesia" focused on the kinds of technological interactions that impact upon the individual on both a personal and a cultural level. That focus is expanded in my current series, Palimpsestic Metanoia. These works translate personal experience into imagery that is at once digital and painterly. The source material for electrostatic and photographic composite alike is drawn from real and imagined experience and engage a collage aesthetic appropriate to the multivalent sensory possibilities of our time. Gegam Kacherian This series of intimate, small works came about partly as a result of the recent hostilities and conflict in the Artsakh region. To reconnect with his history and culture that had experienced such devastating destruction, Kacherian recalled plein air painting lessons at several of these sites, and turned to a book documenting historical churches of Armenia from the 5th to the 15th centuries. HAYK GRIGORYAN Hayk Grigoryan gained access into the ex-libris world in the year 2000. It can be said that, as a vocational student of the art of graphics and sensible of the values of the printing culture, he is a good expert of the secrets of the art of engraving as well as of modern digital technology. We put forward this detail because his ex-libris work is the laudable and innovative result of this understanding which he has applied to his more that thirty bookplates pro...duced during the last four years. All of them deserve our particular attention because of their technical and formal aspects as well as because of their conceptual aspect and contents. Let us then approach his work. From a formal point of view Grigoryan’s bookplates are capable of being studied under different concepts. Therefore, in relation to their composition they are built around a vertebral core a face, an animal or any other element which agglutinates a rich settlement of images. In general, it is a question of a large size element in the foreground accompanied by an unlimited number of icons which invite us to read them for the need of making explicit the visual narration involved. Another aspect to be considered is the treatment of these images, hyper-realistic and in some instances almost photographic, while in others, they possess a more synthetic, graphic or a simple illustrative character but always with a great dose of a figurative, detailed and decorative precision. . HARRY VORPERIAN My work takes a view of social, political and cultural issues. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, ofte...n in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. ROGER KUPELIAN This series of pieces were done the year after my experience as an embedded documentarian in Nagorno Karabakh/ Artsakh, 1994. The subject, Aro, was a fighter in one of the Volunteer units. We were on the back of a MTB armored car on our way to one of the positions when a large tree branch suddenly swept us all off the top. Aro got a nice knock that just missed his eye. I used my own first aid kit to treat it and then gave the kit to one of their medics. The i...mage always haunted me because of its crucifixion motif, so I created a series of mixed media pieces based on it as I was taking courses at Art Center in Pasadena. I wish this war all had been ancient history but unfortunately, it has never left us. . Roger Kupelian is a visual effects artist who has been working in the film industry since the early nineties. Well versed in many forms of visual media, Roger has worked on storyboards, production illustrations, music video concepts, and creating digital environments for major film productions. He is known for his artistic work on blockbuster films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Alice in Wonderland, Cloverfield, Hugo, and Pirates of the Caribbean. His digital effects work on Lord of the Rings earned him a nomination for Best Matte Painter at the Visual Effects Society Awards. SERJ TANKIAN A singer, poet, songwriter, visual artist, activist, and composer; Serj Tankian has always created music as an outlet to express his thoughts and feelings with a level of passion and consciousness that few in today’s world of music can rival. An Armenian born in Lebanon and re-rooted in Los Angeles, Serj was introduced to the melding of cultures, ideas and ideals from a very young age. The principles learned from this integration and adaptation have led to his un...derstanding of the oneness of all things and have since maneuvered and transfigured into the music and art that he lives to create. In recent years, Tankian has split his time between holding a mic and paintbrush, having feverishly created over 40 pieces of art since 2013.
