Our first Assyrtiko harvest begins this morning in the Suisun Valley. Conditions are less than ideal but the grapes look good and I’m excited to work with them.
We love everything about Masullo Pizza here in Sac. But one of the things we love most is how they truly stand behind their farm to fork philosophy.....and that goes for their wine list too.... When you are truly supporting local wineries, it should come as no surprise that on a Wednesday afternoon, a couple Sac winemakers might happen to drop by simultaneously to drop off some wine and grab a bite of lunch. Thank you Masullo for everything you do! https://www.instagram.com/p/B3scG9sJoJH/
Picked and pressed a very, very small batch of first year Assyrtiko this morning.... excited about the potential for this lovely Greek grape... time will tell.....
Yesterday’s harvest goings on. Pressed some Mourvèdre for the upcoming Tryphon Pink. Also received Carignane, Cinsault, and Syrah over the weekend. It’s gonna be a great vintage!
Taking a break during yesterday’s pressing of Viogner to do a little tasting in the barrel room with our Australian visitors.
Assyrtiko! Many of you know that I attempted to grow this wonderful grape at our property in Camptonville, and a few of you know that I failed miserably. Due to bad timing and even worse decision-making none of the vines survived. The good news is that I found a passionate grower in the Suisun Valley who was willing to take on the project. Roger King of King Andrews Vineyards has been slowly replacing areas of his vineyard with more esoteric varieties and he decided that my Assyrtiko idea was worth a shot. So this year he grafted over a few rows of Zinfandel in a section that we both agreed would be a perfect spot, and the grafts were all successful. Next year I will very likely be making my first ever Assyrtiko! Stay tuned.
Three new releases in our web store this morning! 2015 Sangiovese - It’s finally in the bottle and it’s awesome! Amphora wine from high elevation grapes. 2017 Cinsault - We don’t get these grapes every year and we don’t get much. Get it while you can. ... 2017 Syrah - What’s to say? Syrah is delicious and we’re on a mission to prove it. https://www.tryphonvineyards.com/dept-362431/Wine.html
Winter vineyard
Just a little something we’re up to these days.
Looking for wines for your Thanksgiving table? We just added the 2016 Cinsault and the 2016 Syrah to the store. And of course, there’s always the Sangiovese! Order by Wednesday next week for shipping before Thanksgiving or pick them up from the winery in West Sacramento.
Here are the components of this year’s Tryphon Red. We’re going to make a classic GSM.
So much Sangiovese!
Pressed the estate Sangiovese and the Grenache today. This weekend I’ll be pressing Mourvèdre and Syrah as well. Gonna make a GSM blend this year.
Who’s ready for some amphora-fermented Sangiovese?!
