Women only apply for jobs when they are 100 percent qualified. Men, on the other hand, tend to apply when they are only 60 percent qualified. When this data was released via an internal report by Hewlett-Packard several years ago, many credited this disparity to a lack of confidence among women." As a largely female-dominated profession, it's time we build the confidence and learn how to market our nursing skills to obtain the career of our dreams. Join us tomorrow fo...r an event on just how to do that! https://www.bevycares.com/e/m8utcq/ #nurses #nursing #healthcare #nursingnewgrads #nursingstudents

Studies have shown that some racial disparities in healthcare are not getting better, but actually getting worse. Nurses are the most trusted profession in the US and are in a opportune position to not only recognize these disparities, but also be an active part of the solution. So how can we use our expertise and voices to dismantle racial healthcare disparities? Brittany Greaves RN BSN shared with us where to start. http://trst.ly/BCe9_4Hs... #nurses #nursing #healthcare #healthcaredisparities #diversity #BlackHistoryMonth

Today’s guest is someone very special who is working tirelessly to change the field of nursing . Andrea Dalzell is a registered nurse and a pioneer for people with disabilities. At 5 years old, she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a neurological disorder that left her unable to walk. Despite spending most of her life in a wheelchair, Andrea graduated with honors and in 2018 became not only a registered nurse, but also the only nurse in all of New York City who is in ...a wheelchair. Throughout her professional journey, Andrea has fought against the preconceived notions that her professors, bosses, and colleagues have had about her disability. She has worked tirelessly to promote health inclusion and advocate for people with disabilities. Last month, she was awarded the inaugural Craig H. Neilsen Visionary Prize, which she’ll be using to start a foundation to encourage people with disabilities to get into the field of nursing and to ensure that nursing schools are equipped to handle students with disabilities. Andrea speaks with Dr. Dan Weberg about her experiences, what she wants nurse leaders and other individuals working in the healthcare industry to know, and what she plans to do next. http://trst.ly/jpcOyX2Q #nurses #nursing #healthcare #nursingnewgrads #nursingstudents

As nurses, we put an emphasis on evidence-based practice and rely heavily on the latest research to appropriately care for patients. But what happens when bias exists in healthcare research? During summer 2020, two published articles were, very publicly, shamed for implicit bias, sexism, racism, and classism among others. Check out Ashley Sayle, PNP, thoughts on bias in research and what we need to do as a healthcare community moving forward. http://trst.ly/SW3sw4RY... #nurses #nursing #healthcare #nursingnewgrads #nursingstudents

2020 has been a pivotal year for discussions about race and many of these important conversations have spilled over into healthcare, forcing those of us who work in this industry to reckon with how we care for patients and how we treat our coworkers of color. Our guest for this episode of The Handoff is Ashley Sayles, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC who shares her brushes with racism and her experience being the only Black nurse on her unit.
