TSRS would like to celebrate the birthday of the late Doris Calloway! Dr. Calloway was a nutritionist noted for her studies of human metabolism, and her role in public health, and food preservation and safety. During her career, she researched malnutrition in Africa, helped NASA determine dietary needs in space, and even consulted for the United Nations. Dr. Calloway was the first woman to serve as a provost at UC Berkeley.

Today TSRS's Jessica Fung (Co-President) and Gisel Lopez (Vice President of External Affairs) attended the Triton Women who Lead Forum to promote STEM education for underrepresented youth! The forum included a conversation with notable women in UC San Diego's leadership including Lisa D. Ordóñez (Dean, Rady School of Management) and Kit Pogliano (Dean, Division of Biological Sciences). If you're interested in attending similar events in the future, or volunteer opportunities to get involved in San Diego's STEAM community, send us a message!

She was the first woman, and first African American, to hold this position.
