The most effective way to remove plaque from the teeth is by brushing regularly, and we recommend an electronic toothbrush. If a manual toothbrush is preferred, brush in circular movements along the front, back, and top of the teeth, for at least 2 minutes and twice a day. Close to 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or oropharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause over 9,750 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. Of those 53,000 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. Risk factors are not limited to just alcohol & drug/tobacco users. HPV and chronic trauma can also be a contributing factor to oral cancer. Treatment of oral cancers is ideally a multidisciplinary approac...h. Prior to the commencement of curative treatment, it is likely that other oral health needs will be addressed. The purpose is to decrease the likelihood of developing post therapeutic complications. Teeth with poor prognosis from periodontal problems, caries, etc. may be extracted. Most survivors have problems with eating and speaking. Most importantly they will not be able to smile and would always want to cover their face. As an oral cancer advocate and your dentist, our team also has a multidisciplinary approach to giving that smile back. Come and follow us on this journey and be inspired.
