Travis Air Force Base Veterinary Treatment Facility 03.01.2021

Good morning, Once again we would like to apologize for how difficult it was to get in touch with our clinic by phone last week. We appreciate each client who contacted us through our Facebook page or the app which allowed us to treat our patients in the clinic and communicate with our clients who needed prescription refills, appointments, etc. at the same time. Also, our computer system is finally functioning normally again, so we can begin to process payments for appointmen...ts and surgeries from the last few weeks. Unfortunately our clinic has run into some more difficult circumstances. For the time being we will be unable to schedule patients for surgical services. Sadly, one of our veterinarians has a shoulder injury and we are in the process of transitioning in our new Captain. It is unclear how long we will be unable to perform surgeries and we understand how inconvenient this is for our clients and patients. We take pride in being a more affordable option for surgical services. We will continue seeing patients for wellness exams, vaccinations, sick call appointments, diagnostics, PCS prep, etc. We appreciate all of our clients being understanding during this time and hope to be able to perform surgeries again soon!

We would like to apologize if you have been unable to get ahold of our clinic today. We have had some unexpected staffing shortages which has left us with only one veterinarian and one veterinary technician for the rest of the week. We do not have anyone at our front desk dedicated to answer phone calls because of this. Please leave a voicemail and we will get back to you as soon as possible or you can send us a message through our Facebook page. Thank you for your patience!

Every April, to coincide with the beginning of mosquito season, we observe National Heartworm Awareness Month. But what is heartworm disease and do you know if your dog is protected? Heartworm is a potentially deadly parasite that is transmitted only by mosquitos, which pick up larval heartworms, called microfilaria, circulating in the bloodstream of infected animals.... Heartworm disease causes lasting damage and can affect a dog’s health and quality of life long after the parasites are gone. That is why prevention is the best option. You should have your dog tested for heartworm disease before administering a preventive. This is a simple test administered by your veterinarian. The test requires a small blood sample from your dog. It works by detecting the presence of heartworm proteins. Your dog needs to be tested annually even if they are on a heartworm preventative. The medicines are highly effective, but testing is necessary to confirm that they are working. Heartworm disease is a dangerous and progressive disease. It has been detected in all 50 states so the more proactive you are in taking preventative measures, the better.
