Hello to all my friends! I regret that I must announce... the store at Shoreline Village will be closing at the end of September. All of you locals be sure to come down for some great clearance pricing. The good news is, the website and Facebook page will remain active so we can still share our love for vintage and deco! The website will revert back to featuring only vintage items, as was my original intention. My thanks to all of you for your support over the last twelve years!! I look forward to your awesome posts and discussions about vintage cars, ships, planes, trains, architecture, radio's, telephones, clothing and all the other treasures we come across!

For those of you who haven't heard Transatlantic Style and all of the other shops aboard the Queen Mary, have been given notice to vacate our shops by the end of this year. I want to thank all of our friends aboard ship, and all of our friends that visit, for your kind support over the past seven years. Transatlantic Style started in Seattle in 2003, and found a home on the QM in 2006. It has been an honor to have a business aboard, and we hate to have to leave. But we won't be going far! TS will relocate to a new location (locally) soon. We hope to announce our new location in the next week or so. Until then, please keep an eye out for the announcement, and again, a big thank you to all our friends and supporters!

I LOVE L.A.! Until recent years, downtown Los Angeles had spent several decades falling out of popularity and into neglect and decay. Although always "overshado...wed" to some degree by Hollywood and the nearby Southern California beach lifestyle, I recall Downtown being a vibrant place filled with theaters, restaurants and nightlife -- a suitably smaller-scale urban environment of the type those of us who relocated here from places such as New York and Chicago were accustomed. Today, with a bustling Arts District, richly detailed restorations of grand old movie palaces, all manner of skyscraping development under construction (or in the planning) and improving public transportation, the city is experiencing a breathtaking renaissance. In this gorgeously edited and scored short film by Ian Wood (www.IanWood.com), who deployed a GoPro camera affixed to a remote-controlled mini-helicopter, downtown L.A.'s under-appreciated yet classic and remarkably varied 20th century architecture is revealed intimately and showcased from rare, revelatory, heretofore unseen angles. I am particularly moved by the footage of the 84-year-old, Art Deco-style Eastern Columbia building's clock tower -- where, in 1950, MGM Studios had me climb a wobbly ladder to "move" the clock's giant hands for a Daylight Saving Time publicity stunt. (See video at 00:54 and 1:58, and also see the vintage photograph of me in action in the comments thread below.) Thank you, Ian, for sharing this unique and beautiful visual record of our city.
