WHAT DOES THE REGIONAL STAY HOME ORDER MEAN FOR TRUCKEE? It means that gatherings of any size are prohibited. Bars, wineries, personal services, and hair salons must close temporarily. Retail can stay open with a cap of 20% capacity. Restaurants must stop all on-site dining and only provide take-out or delivery services.... Essential workforce and critical infrastructure sectors are allowed to stay open. WHAT DOES THE REGIONAL STAY HOME ORDER MEAN FOR HOTELS, LODGING, AND TRAVEL? While we are under the Regional Stay Home Order, non-essential travel is prohibited. This ban applies to all hotels and lodging facilities, including the rental of an entire home or a single room within a home. All existing reservations must be canceled for a minimum of 3 weeks. Hotels and lodging can only offer accommodation for COVID-19 mitigation and containment measures, treatment measures, accommodation for essential workers, or providing housing solutions, including measures to protect homeless populations. We ask that community members who want to report a possible short-term rental violation email [email protected]. WHEN WILL WE BE RELEASED FROM THE REGIONAL STAY HOME ORDER? The minimum timeframe is 3 weeks from when it goes into effect. The State will review the ICU capacity on a week-by-week basis. The Greater Sacramento Region (including Truckee) will be released from the Order once our ICU capacity is 15% or more at the beginning of the week. If our capacity remains under the 15% capacity, we will remain under the Regional Stay Home Order for longer. Learn more about the Regional Stay at Home Order, including FAQs, why it is implemented, how it impacts different sectors, go to the state website: https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-nee/

Snow berms; - a ridge of snow graded up by a plow. Snow berms can be a temporary inconvenience during the winter months in the mountains. Winter road crews work 24/7 to accommodate the snow removal needs of our entire community. Snowplow operators clear snow from public roadways with the goal being to make as many roads passable as quickly as possible. Snow is cleared from the center of the road to the sides of the road and may block driveways. Driveway maintenance, incl...uding the removal of snow berms, remains the responsibility of the property owner or resident. Town ordinance requires residents, business owners or contractors who are clearing snow on private property to not deposit snow into public roads or rights-of-way. For more information about snow berms, go to: https://www.townoftruckee.com//pub/snow-removal/snow-berms For more tips, reminders and information to help you prepare for a winter in Truckee, go to: https://www.townoftruckee.com//Components/News/News/6222/21

We officially got our first sprinkle of snow! Are you ready for winter? We have put together some tips and reminders for our visitors and residents to prepare for the chilly season. Here’s just one reminder about snow poles: Town of Truckee Public Work's Crews check on the condition and placement of snow poles each fall. Snow poles are installed for the benefit of the snowplow drivers and may not necessarily be placed in front of every residential lot. Reported damage...d snow poles will be replaced or removed throughout the year. Service Request Forms are available for your convenience which can be e-mailed directly to the Public Works Department. Requests can be submitted for snow pole repair or replacement, signage damage, road hazards and line-of-sight issues such as trees that encroach into the roadways. With winter weather around the corner, we have put together some tips and information for residents and visitors about Town of Truckee services, what we all need to prepare for, and how you can access important information. Here is just one great reminder: TRASH CANS & MAILBOXES... Residents should set their trash containers far enough away from the street to avoid damage by snowplows and blowers. This will help prevent trash containers from being buried in snow or being picked up by the snow blowers, shredded, and blown back into their property. This practice should be maintained during and after storms, when snow blowers widen the roadways. Mailboxes placed or installed within Town right-of-ways are the responsibility of the owner and may be damaged if not moved out of the way before a storm. Truckee, we cannot let our guard down; we need to continue to be COVID safe. We are trending towards the Red "Substantial" Tier requiring business sectors to lesson their capacity and modify to more restrictive operations. Although we remain in the Orange Tier this week, we are seeing many of our neighboring counties go backward in the tier system and are seeing the case rates in Nevada County trend in the same direction. The State’s tier data represents a seven-day lag; how...ever, we saw a dramatic increase of twenty-three new cases this Monday, said Interim Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Johnson. We continue to urge everyone to stay diligent about refraining from gatherings with friends and family as well as going into the office if you are feeling sick. Most of our recent COVID-19 cases are from people letting their guard down; participating in social gatherings without masking or distancing, traveling out of the area where transmission rates are higher, and going into work while carrying COVID-19 and transmitting it throughout the workplace. Read the full update from Nevada County Public Heath here: https://www.mynevadacounty.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3353 Reference the State’s COVID19.ca.gov website for complete COVID-19 business safety guidelines and modifications.

We had a great question from a community member asking how far the public right-of-way extends beyond the edge of roadway pavement. We wanted to share the information widely: Public right-of-ways are established on recorded Subdivision maps. The majority of roads in Truckee have a 60-foot right-of-way width. This means that the right-of-way extends approximately 30 feet on either side from the center of the road. However, right-of-way widths vary and may be wider or narrow...er than 60 feet. To find out a specific right-of-way width on a specific road, a helpful tool is the interactive GIS map on the Town website: https://townoftruckee.maps.arcgis.com//webappv/index.html A user can add the Roadways layer to the map from the layer list, zoom in to click on a specific road, and the right-of-way width (ROW width in feet) is included in the pop-up information box. Citizens may also call the Public Works Department to ask for information. 530-582-7707.

Tahoe Truckee Media is the local educational and government media center that provides a venue for the local voice, to educate, and to keep residents up to date on local government, special districts, and events. We work with Tahoe Truckee Media to broadcast community workshops, our Town meetings and events such as our upcoming virtual Veterans Day celebration. We want to recognize Tahoe Truckee Media manager Rory O’Farrell who has been appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) and will join the board this month. It’s a privilege and an honor to be asked to join the Board of an organization I have respected for years. The ACM provides the policy and professional support that keeps free speech media thriving in our communities., said O’Farrell in the ACM press release.

As the summer season ends, the air becomes crisp, leaves change and fall from trees, and bears become more active. They're on the hunt for food. During the fall months, bears eat and drink nearly nonstop. They need to put on weight to prepare for winter and hibernation. Bears and other animals are attracted to anything edible or smelly. These photos were taken by our Truckee Police Department just a few weeks ago when a bear became stuck in this car. It’s up to all of us to ...help keep bears alive and wild for generations to come. Our Town of Truckee Animal Services has these tips for all residents & visitors: -Stash your food and trash -Store garbage in bear-proof containers, or store garbage in your garage until pick-up. -Keep food indoors or in airtight and odor-free containers. -Do not leave food in your car. -Put away picnic leftovers; clean BBQ grills. -Keep pet food inside, and bird feeders away. -Remove cosmetic fragrances and other attractants, including bird feeders and compost piles. -Install or request bear-proof trash containers. -Make sure you lock your vehicle Remember prevention is always the first step. Check out the Keep Truckee Green website for more great bear awareness information. https://www.keeptruckeegreen.org/residents/bear-awareness/ https://wildlife.ca.gov/Keep-Me-Wild/Bear
