The Los Alamos Cemetery, which was established in 1877 is, as most of us know, a community treasure, with countless loved ones going back all these years, resti...ng on this gently rolling site on Drum Canyon, just a few minutes from town. For decades, the Cemetery District has always been managed by a small Board of Directors, charged with the responsibility of keeping it operating, well maintained and, fiscally sound. At this point, the job has grown to the point that changes are in the works. We are forming a new 501c3, that will be called Friends of The Los Alamos Cemetery which will operate much like other small cemeteries. Even our local library is benefitting by a similar Friends Of.... This new group will be able to use social media to reach a broader public via social media, solicit endowments, seek grants and donations in order to make the significant capital improvements that have become necessary. In effect, the LAVCD will have a public face, which we believe will help support it into the future. We are seeking new Board Members for Friends Of The Los Alamos Cemetery. If you feel you might have interest in serving our community in this way, please private message me and we can discuss what is involved. Photography: as always, by Jeffrey Bloom.
