For Raymond, our shelter has been a safety net when he’s fallen on hard times throughout his life. He says he’d tell others in need to take the chance and try and better your life. You have a place that’s willing to help you. #sheltersuccess #torresshelter... With your support, we can continue to change lives, like Raymond's, every day. For just $36, you can provide a night of shelter, warm meals, a hot shower and case management services to an individual experiencing homelessness in our community. Go to truenorthbutte.org/donate today.

We had a new sign addition installed today, honoring our connection to our parent organization, True North Housing Alliance! A big thank you to Jeff and Aaron, of Dragon Graphics. We love how it turned out!

Meet Angela! She entered our programs at True North Housing Alliance/the Torres Community Shelter about one year ago, and we are so proud of how far she has come. She just turned 46 (happy birthday!), and for most of her life, she struggled with addiction. Angela has been through so much. She is a domestic violence survivor and a sexual assault survivor. She has experienced significant health issuesshe suffers from seizures, and while staying at with us at the Torres Shelter..., she was diagnosed with cancer and went through treatment. When Angela was feeling really sick and wanted to give up, she would reach out to her True North Housing Alliance case manager and to our staff members. They cheered her on and kept her going, she said. I never thought I’d live to be 46 years old because my addiction was so bad. True North Housing Alliance’s staff are a big family to me. Without them, I couldn’t have gotten through it all. They were my shoulder to cry on. It’s not just one individual that helps you. They encourage you. They help you and they don’t give up on you. We have a diverse group of guests at the Torres Community Shelter. We want you to meet them, to hear their stories, and to understand the impact that we can make together. With your support, we can continue to change lives, like Angela's, every day. For just $36, you can provide a night of shelter, warm meals, a hot shower and case management services to an individual experiencing homelessness in our community. We are so proud of our former guests, Rick and Jessica! Rick was a member of our vocational Kitchen Crew, earning his cooking certification and preparing and serving meals to others here. Jessica said her mental health dramatically improved while she was in our programswith the support of our team, she accessed the resources she needed to treat her addiction and anxiety disorder. #housingsuccessstory #endhomelessness

A year ago, John was in a dark place, struggling with homelessness and mental illness. Then, he turned to the Torres Shelter. It changed his life. John wants to share his story with you in honor of Mental Illness Awareness Week (Oct. 4-10). Our parent organization, True North Housing Alliance, is joining NAMI and other organizations across the U.S. in raising awareness and fighting mental health stigma. It’s OK to get help. And it’s good to get help," John says. "You want t...o be healthy, mentally and physically, that’s the goal." Meet John and read his story in True North's blog: https://truenorthbutte.org/ou/finding-the-light-johns-story #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek #MIAW #YouAreNotAlone

Our garden is a happy place for our guests. <3 Look at these sunflowers, Butte County Local Food Network! They grew from seeds you donated. Shout out to From The Ground Up Farms, Inc. for helping us get our garden started years ago.

We are so grateful for our community, which continues to give during even the most challenging of times. Multiple guests saw this donation come in today, and could hardly contain their excitement. A new pillow may seem like a small thing, but it means so much to those we serve.
