Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) is a measure used in transportation planning for a variety of purposes. It measures the amount of travel for all vehicles in a geographic region over a given period of time. How much driving do you think you do, what is your daily VMT? Take a guess and comment down below! tjwengineering.com

Here's a shot of one of our completed projects at the Great Park in Irvine, CA! The Upper Bee Trail is a 1.5-mile walking and biking trail in the Great Park Community. The trail provides a variety of Southern California native landscaping while serving as a link for residents of the community. TJW helped provide appropriate signage and striping for the safety of both pedestrians and bicyclists as they travel throughout the trail. https://buff.ly/3inIoLN

We like to start the TIA (Traffic Impact Analysis) process early! Throughout the process, cooperation between city staff, the applicant, and the applicant's traffic engineer is encouraged to provide the best possible conditions for the traveling public and potential users of the proposed development and to reduce TIA report revisions and review time. https://buff.ly/3inIoLN

Did you know that every streetlight is carefully planned and placed? To deal with the issues of night vision, light pollution, and voltage accidents, only a certain number of street lights are installed within a given area. https://www.tjwengineering.com/

Round and round we go! Roundabouts are the latest trend in California for managing traffic flow with minimal maintenance costs compared to traffic signals. Our team understands that a poorly designed roundabout can not only be an uncomfortable experience for pedestrians and drivers alike, but they can also put the safety of the community at risk. Well designed roundabouts add to the soothing flow of a community while providing safe passage to drivers and pedestrians through...out their day. https://buff.ly/3inIoLN

Time for Signs 101! Today we're highlighting the Flagger Symbol (C9A) sign. This pictorial flagger sign ensures that high-speed vehicles slow down on time. A large black graphic on an orange background is highly effective. Road construction signs will warn drivers of work areas and will promote safe and cautious driving near your site. These types of signs help to maintain safety, direct road crews, and block loiterers.... https://buff.ly/3inIoLN

Keeping workers and individuals safe as a community’s transportation corridors evolve depends upon proper re-routing techniques and traffic control. Temporary traffic control is an inevitability as communities increase in population and where maintenance is required. Widening a road, repairing a damaged bridge, updating pavement markers, utility installation or traffic signal repairs, etc., all require a combination of proper signage, channelization, barriers, and/or flag pe...rsons in order to keep both drivers and workers safe. We're here to help with your next temporary traffic control project. Contact us to get your proposal started! tjwengineering.com

Time for Signs 101! Today we're highlighting this No Outlet (W14-2) sign. When the W14-2 sign is used, the sign shall be posted as near as practical to the entry point or at a sufficient advance distance to permit the road user to avoid the dead-end or no outlet condition by turning at the nearest intersecting street. https://buff.ly/3inIoLN

Check out this signing and striping design we created for an amazing client. Did you know that in the United States alone, approximately $2 billion is spent annually on road signing and striping? Pavement markings play one of the most important safety functions on our roads. They are widely accepted as being beneficial to drivers in that they communicate the intended travel path. https://buff.ly/3inIoLN
