Meet Pablo and his nephew Miguel of Tierra Vegetables Farm. This #CesarChavezDay and #FarmworkerAwarenessWeek, we’re going back to the farm to introduce you t...o some of the essential people who grow your food. Originally from Michoacán, Mexico, Pablo comes from generations of corn growers. He has been with the farm since 1997, and he is the reason that Tierra Vegetables grows heirloom corn and makes masa. "Without Pablo, Tierra Vegetables wouldn’t be able to operate," says farmers Lee James. "No one knows the field, crops, irrigation, tractor work, and equipment like he does." Pablo's family is also essential to Tierra Vegetables. During the pandemic, Pablo‘s nephew, Miguel, lost his job at a restaurant and came back to the farm to work. Pablo's wife and daughter work in Tierra's kitchen. What does Pablo like best about farming? He said, Everythingcarrots, strawberries, tractor work, harvesting. Support Tierra Vegetables at the Ferry Plaza on Saturdays. We made this mole right at the end of winter with Chihuacle Negro chiles and dates. It has a luscious flavor and texture with a delayed lingering heat.
