We're only a few days away from the first day of winter and it's important to keep your pet warm. Dog breeds like corgis, greyhounds, small-bodied terriers and other short-haired dogs can wear coats while going on walks to stay insulated.

Dog Breed of the Month: Irish Setter The Irish Setter is a breed of gundog that was bred in particular to hunt birds. When they've located the scent of a bird, they will hold a pointing position to indicate the direction it is hiding. Though a very active breed, they do well with children and other pets, and they crave human companionship. Positive training is relatively easy due to their high intelligence. However, they are best kept occupied with some kind of job to do, or ...they may become bored and destructive to pass the time. Despite this, Irish Setters make good therapy dogs due to their excellent temperament. This dog's coat is long, silky, and red or chestnut in color. They weigh between 55 and 75 pounds on average. Irish Setters are a notably healthy breed, but possible health problems that could occur include hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and hyperthyroidism. Their deep chest can also make them susceptible to gastric torsion ("bloat"). Their typical life expectancy is eleven to twelve years. Do you have an Irish Setter in your life?
