The warmth and care that a smile, making eye contact and asking how someone’s day’s going can genuinely go a long way for them. Of course keeping boundaries and safety in consideration, encourage yourself to have more genuine interactions with others you walk past or interact with at the check-out counter. #smallsteps #positivity #care #warmth #smile #converse #social #boundaries #therapy #healthyliving #interactions #quoteoftheday #mindful #support #wellbeing #psychology #bekind #thrivetherapycenters

Genuinely want the best for people. The kind ones, the close ones, the hurt ones, and even the bitter ones. This won’t diverge your energy or affect the steps you’re taking toward your own goals. Sharing a positive mindset for yourself and others pushes you to focus on the goodness there is out there and fills your life with gratification. We have a limited amount of energy to output anyway, and why not put out something we can be at peace with. #positivity #sharethelove #genuine #psychology #wishingwell #healthyliving #therapy #stressrelief #wellness #mentalhealth #goodness #healthy #mindset #helpful #goodvibes #energy #thrivetherapycenters

If only there was a way to count the number of conversations we’ve had with ourselves over the years...what a high number that would be! Do you ever think about the amount of input you get from your inner voice about everything on a daily basis? From opinions about yourself to judgments about others- a lot goes on in that head of ours. Learning to talk back to that voice is a habit we can all work on instead of giving into. Not everything we think is true. Don’t accept a crum...my thought only because your mind goes there from time to time. Learning to challenge the unfavorable comments you tell yourself can begin making a difference in your self esteem and inner peace. For every disagreeable thought your inner voice throws at you, counter it with a positive one and build from there. Self defeating inner thought: You’re going to be late to dinner again, you always do this. Challenge and deescalate it with: It’ll be alright. Since it’s raining, there might be others in my situation as well. Better be cautious than try to speed and make it there exactly on time. Let’s practice on the daily! #talkback #giveyourselfabreak #positivity #habits #practice #innervoice #selftalk #bekindtoyourself #therapy #wellness #healthyhabits #mentalhealth #psychology #mindfull #active #thrivetherapycenters See more

Did you know that it could take up to 3 weeks to form or break a habit? Sometimes life gets in the way of us trying to be more positive when it comes to our eating, our words and our actions, but it is more about our efforts in being good enough rather than aiming for perfection. Attempting to implement healthy and positive habits consistently on smaller scales can be more successful than trying to make huge changes over night. It's about making a conscious effort to be GOOD ENOUGH...as a parent, as a spouse and as a human.

The words we use make an impact on us and our loved ones. Whether these phrases are used toward children or adults, they can make a difference in the way we show empathy towards them. At Thrive Therapy Centers we help our clients pay closer attention to their language and choice of words to develop a kinder relationship with themselves and others.

What do you do when you can't tell 2 things apart? You try to take a closer look at each of them- figuring out their differences amongst their similarities. This can be time consuming, tiring, and may even require a second set of eyes for help. Who is to say that mental health symptoms are any different? Being able to put a name to what is going on with you can be a sign of relief. You can think to yourself that you've been feeling more anxious lately, you're having trouble w...ith your sleep, you're feeling irritable, and having difficulty concentrating on your routine tasks. You might be asking yourself, "What's been going on with me?" Some nights you might have trouble falling asleep, and some nights you might be waking up constantly. You're motivated for a few days and then spend hours watching television and skip going to your regular workouts the following week. We can all have our carefree days, and we can all have our bad days. These thoughts are only to bring awareness to the fact that if these situations sound like you, more often than not, then there might be something deeper going on. There may be something worth checking out. You may be experiencing ongoing anxiety and/or depression without even being able to put your finger on them. Anxiety and Depression are two very similar yet different issues that affect millions of people in our country. In America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental health illness. Depression comes in at a close second. It may feel like a relief to know that you're not the only one going through something uncomfortable or difficult, and to know that there are many outlets for help. Asking for help may be an uncommon experience for you, but you may have a lot to gain by seeking help through talk therapy and seeing a psychiatrist for possible medications. Note that anxiety and depression look differently for every individual, and are experienced in numerous ways. I may be losing sleep, have a diminished appetite, lose focus, lose energy and have self defeating thoughts while another individual may be feeling different symptoms entirely. These symptoms may have become a normal part of your day and you may be living your day to day life accommodating these symptoms, but there is nothing beneficial about difficulties with sleep, losing your focus, being on edge, and dreading getting out of bed every morning. Please reach out to anyone who you feel can help you!

...The science to stress... Here's a visual representation of the topic our therapists discussed last week on Thrive Therapy Centers' page.

Anxiety is not always bad, right? This question, which we often receive when working with people in our field is a great topic to clarify. Emotions have purposes. Being happy is great and more easily tolerable for most people than sadness, but sadness has its purpose too. The same goes with feeling anxious. Anxiety can definitely be helpful to us in times of danger, alertness, performance, and motivation. Can we remember a time in school when we felt nervous or felt "butterfl...ies in our stomach" before a big test, before a big game, before stepping on stage, or asking someone out on a date? What you felt was anxiety. Sure, it might not have been the same anxiety you may be dealing with now that finances, careers, relationships, children and other variables are involved, but it is the same feeling that follows us through life. Anxiety's harmful effects exist when we find ourselves consumed by people, places and events that are out of our control. No, you cant control it all unfortunately. Feeling anxious for a long period of time can begin to take affect on our health. The cortisol released in our body when we feel anxious is only healthy and helpful to us for short periods of time. It helps us in the "fight or flight" moment of keeping ourselves safe from potential harm. When gone on for too long, it can take a toll on our immune system. It's not a coincidence that we catch a cold during finals week, when planning a wedding, or taking care of an ill parent. It is our mind and body's way of telling us that we have been on anxiety auto-pilot for too long, and need to take care of ourselves. To live harmoniously with anxiety, learning the techniques to decipher healthy vs. harmful ways we are using the anxiety is key.
