And Pavel Bondarenko from the Thousand Oaks Shito Ryu Dojo testing for 2nd Dan. It was an intimidating panel of 11 black belts which I was fortunate to be a part of. Many great comments were given and some fundamental topics discussed. A great effort from the participants. Thanks to the supporting students who assisted in the test and to the Camarillo Shotokan Dojo for hosting the event and allowing us to join in on the Dan Test. Osu!

We are running our black belt test at the Camarillo Shotokan dojo tomorrow at 1pm. Sempai Pavel will be testing for 2nd Dan. To those who can make it, please come and support. When: Saturday October 26th @ 1pm Where Camarillo Shotokan Dojo 1330 Flynn Rd, Camarillo, CA 93012... We will be running our Shito-Ryu curriculum alongside Sensei Victor’s students who are testing for 3rd and 4th Dan. It is sure to be a good event with several Dan ranks testing side by side. A fantastic day of competition at Sensei Victor Young's 26th Annual Camarillo Shotokan Karate Tournament! A great turn out of roughly 270 competitors from vario...us styles at what is always such a well organized event by Sensei Young. A superb job by Sensei Shawn Danaher (4th Dan) who was honored to be taking over the reigns the tournament in the future. The new event Team Kumite at the end of the day was an exciting event to compete in to finish off the day! It was great to interact with all the high ranking Sensei at the tournament and especially with Sensei Garry Edwards 5th Dan from Australia and his students who competed: Caren Jenkins, Mark Richardson and his son Daniel and Keith Koppenal 81 years old (who is a true inspiration to watch). Also it was a treat catch up with Helle Jorgenson (1st Dan) also from Australia compete and perform well in black belt kata! Lastly, an exceptional performance and display of spirit by brown belt Mark Richardson of Australia who competed alongside with me in the team black belt division against more experienced opponents and received 2nd place.
