The Williamsburg Seamster 03.11.2020

Yet another #twsbeforeandafter of a gown that needed to be shortened along the waist. In this case, all of the boning in this structured bodice also had to be shortened, so it would not dig in or buckle as you can see it doing in the before pic on the left. The beading also had to be shortened in order to maintain the belt-like effect it created along the waist. The straps were shortened slightly and I snuck in a few strategically placed snug stitches along the neckline to ...counter the gaping there. And finally, lots of length was removed from lots of layers to give it that perfect fringey flow towards the original train. . . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #beadedweddinggown @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

I may be close to posting too many #twsbeforeandafter pics at once, but at a time like this, I think a little more joy, a little extra sparkle, couldn’t hurt. So here’s a gorgeous voluminous gown with 3D floral details which was raised at the shoulder and along the waist, then fitted significantly along the ribcage, which helped provide bust support as well as definition. The bust was also pulled in with a shaped dart, which was then hidden by the grace of those 3D flowers. M...ultiple layers of the full skirt were shortened and tidied up to complete this perfect look! . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bhldnbride #bhldn #floralweddingdress #bridalalterationsspecialist @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

Of course this gown came from a castle- @clairepettibone ‘s castle boutique in LA that is. This sample gown was in pretty good shape, but you can swipe through this #twsbeforeandafter to see how it was fitted and contoured along the waist, bust, shoulders and sides, to become the perfect fit for this lovely bride. I suppose there’s a theme to some of these #twsbeforeandafter posts today, because this lovely layered gown also needed to be shortened along the waist. To properly fit, it also had to be brought in significantly from the back along the zipper, because the sides were actually just illusion tulle panels. It involved removing and then reattaching a whole lot of buttons. You can see the bias cut of the skirt became more exaggerated as a result of this; thankfully I was careful w...ith the material to make sure it didn’t stretch or otherwise interfere with the fit, and the draping worked well to balance out the new, proportionately shorter train. . . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #tulleweddinggown #weddingdress @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

Hope you are enjoying all of these #twsbeforeandafter posts! Making this gown fit the way the bride had hoped it would involved some creative problem solving. This happens a lot when a sample size gown has elements that may not remain the same once the dress comes in the brides actual size. This whole gown had to be petite-ized, so I started with taking it apart at the waist so I could shorten the bodice from the front and sides. To get it closer to the sample she liked, I ...turned the neckline under to open it up more along the collar bones. The shoulders were raised and I reset the very fitted sleeves in place with a new invisible underarm gusset (using excess dotted tulle from the hem), and of course shortened the rest of it, blending into the original train. I also built in support with cups and some well placed snaps. Love this silhouette and the way the density of the dots on the tulle changes throughout the design. . . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #beforeandafter #modernbride @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

What is not to love about the dress in this #twsbeforeandafter ?! To make it perfect, first the whole thing was taken apart along the waist. The bodice was shortened to line up with the brides natural waist. The skirt was brought in along the back to cinch in the waist, and the lace peplum details were adjusted to coordinate as well. The shoulders were also brought up a pinch, which along with cups helped provide support in the bust. Finished it off with a wrist loop and bust...le for future dance moves! . . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #laceweddinggown @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

This #twsbeforeandafter only required minor fitting and basic adjustments to the length for this brides beach wedding, but the one-skin-tone-fits-all-Nude lining used in the bust and over the hips was particularly disappointing. To make this perfect, we removed the entire bodice and hip linings, replacing the exposed hip area with a stretchy material that better matched this brides skin tone, and left the top of the bodice unlined, but secured the bust with cups that were c...overed in the same fabric as the new hip area. It instantly made the dress appear more elegant, and allowed the lace detailing, especially along the midsection, to pop! . . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #laceweddingdress #cutoutweddingdress @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

Here’s a really fun #twsbeforeandafter from a New Years Eve wedding! We took a lightly embellished but simple @asos style and added yards and yards of feathers to make the skirt and sleeves more fun and full, swapped out the slip that came with it for a sewn in strapless silk lining, and tailored the whole thing to the right fit. Hope you enjoy this one! . . . .... #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #weddingdressalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #beadedweddingdress @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

Adjusting and adapting and waiting, so why not share some #twsbeforeandafter posts. Hope you will enjoy! For this one, you’ll notice I created full sleeves to attach to the tailored bodice, repurposing the lace that originally framed the bottom of the skirt, since the bride wanted a more flowing, modern look. . . . . #bridetobe #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #thewilliamsburgseamster #beforeandafter #laceweddingdress @ The Williamsburg Seamster

I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me , but I’ve been busily working in here what was supposed to be my final wedding season. Out of an abundance of precaution and concern for everybody’s health in addition to my own, I have made the difficult decision to cancel and reschedule all appointments through the rest of March. In order to ensure that I am able to accommodate the changing plans and wedding dates that couples are now navigating, I will likely extend my t...ime and continue to offer services through June, perhaps later. It’s all about adapting and being flexible during this time. I have emailed all the brides I’ve already committed to (if you haven’t heard from me pls send me an email) and am working on a plan for how to recover from this time away from work. I have set up a temporary workspace at home, and thought it’s nothing like my spacious work room downtown, i will be doing my best to keep work in progress. I am so appreciative of the kindness, generosity, and support I have already received from my clients, even while they are struggling themselves. Take care, everybody. We’re all in this together. Looking back on some of the most fun projects of 2019 and have to share this one first- a very customized heirloom wedding dress update, which turned the original dress worn by this brides mother into three separate looks. I forgot to take a proper before picture in the studio but if you scroll to the end you can see it, and as you swipe through you’ll see the dress as worn with a new cape made from excess fabric from the sleeves along with a cotton voile which coordinated ve...ry well with the original pin tucked fabric, how the new bodice developed by inverting the panel from the top of the original dress, and the lengthened lower portion of the skirt, which I made detachable with a zipper and built in crinoline for extra ooomph for this silhouette. The most wonderful part of course was working with this awesome and open-minded client. They participated so well in this collaborative process, which ensures this dress was just what they wanted in the end. . . . . #heirloomweddingdress #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #vintagebride #weddingdressseamstress #twsbeforeandafter @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

Tailored this delightful dress from @bhldn for a sweet friend of a friend’s wedding, and I really adore how it came out! Swipe through to see the different in fit achieved by bringing the dress in at the back, up at the shoulders, and shortening the sleeves to a more flattering length. We also added some well placed snaps/thread chains that allowed her to lock her bra straps in while keeping the wider neckline open, and created a custom sash using excess flower motifs from th...e old hem of the sleeve. . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #bridalalterationsspecialist #sewing #bridaltailor #bhldnbride #bridetobe #losangelesbride #floralweddingdress #weddingdress @ The Williamsburg Seamster See more

From afar, the differences between these #twsbeforeandafter pics might seem subtle, but as you swipe through, you’ll see the magic of tailoring, transforming this from being a dress wearing the bride, into the bride wearing (... more like, absolutely shining in) the dress! The second pic shows how much was brought in from just one side alone on this stretchy, beaded bodice with chiffon (and heavy linings) skirt from @tinavalerdi_official gown , which we also tailored by cre...ating concealed darts in the back, and hemming it to a perfect floor skimming length for this brides summer wedding. . . . . #thewilliamsburgseamster #bridalalterations #sewing #weddingdress #weddingdressalterations #bridalsewing #losangelesbrides #bridal #weddingdresstailor See more
