Dear VBN Members, Over this past year, your VBN Board has met regularly. On several occasions we thought we may be able to host an event however, the spread of the virus simply made it unsafe to do so. The seriousness of the virus hit home with the passing of one of our fellow Board members, Al Souza. Al Souza was born on February 28, 1937 and passed away on November 14, 2020. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957, his military occupational skill was Comba...t Medic, and he attained the rank of Corporal (E4). He received the Army Service Ribbon and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Al lived to the ideals of the Army slogan Soldier for Life, he deeply wanted to give back to the military community and share is business experience with fellow veterans. Al owned several companies throughout his career to include Stonehill Industries (1971-1974) a plastic extrusion business, Tillermaster (1992-1995) a manufacturer of sailboat auto-pilot systems and Industrial Cleaning Supplies (1996-2020) a pressure washer, water purification and reclamation business. Al held a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Clark University and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University. Throughout his life Al was active in the community; pee-wee football coach, science fair judge, Bear Valley Christian Faith Center keynote speaker and finally board member of The Veterans Business Network of Southern California. Al is survived by his wife, Marjorie and five children: Laurie Moore, Ellen White, David Souza, Kristin Davis, Dennis Long; his eight grandchildren: Aaron Gray, David Moore, Mark Wyse, Daniel Souza, James Moore, Kaylie Long, Riley Davis; and three greatgrandchildren: Mackenzie Gray, Kaitlyn Gray, Rebecca Gray. The VBN Board extends our deepest sympathies to the Souza family.

Dear VBN Members, The Veterans Business Network of Southern California remains committed to providing networking opportunities to the local veteran community and frankly, our events are needed now more than ever. Your board continues to meet to discuss how we can move forward. We are hopeful to be able to once again host networking events very soon in the month of July. Events may look different and may be held in unique locations with appropriate measures in place to mini...mize the risk of infection but rest assured, they will be resumed very soon. A message will be issued in mid June as to how and where we can conduct an event on July 16. In the meantime, I encourage all members to join our new LinkedIn group at: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13842664/ We recently created a new updated page, if have not yet joined the group please do so now. Unfortunately we were unable to transfer members from the prior page, so if you were a member of the old group, please go to the new page and ask to be added. We also have a well represented Face Book group page at: https://www.facebook.com/thevbn/. If you are not yet following this group, please do so. Our nation continues to be faced with serious challenges to our health, peace and prosperity. We shall endure as long as we can remain true to the aspirations of Declaration of Independence; that all men are created equal. Members of the VBN share the common bond of military service; the oath we took to support and defend The Constitution of the United States is still in us. That brotherhood is our center of gravity and will enable us to strengthen our nation and each other through these difficult times. I look forward to seeing you all very soon. Sincerely, Daniel T. Monaghan President of the Board The Veterans Business Network of Southern California Colonel, USA (RET)
