After getting ran over by a car, this patient underwent a complex surgery with Dr. Melamed that proved very successful. Not only is she impressed with her results, but she also felt cared for every step of the way because of his bedside manner. Hear her story of being pain free thanks to Dr. Melamed!

Here is an update from my two recent posts about my patient admitted for emergency surgery at Cedars-Sinai Cedars-Sinai The images below re after first stage surgery which went successfully. He had ankylosed thoracic spine except T0-11 and the prior surgeon did further destabilization by doing botched laminectomy. I subsequently performed the second stage on Monday which I would post pictures later. Any of my spine friends and colleagues can see the severity of the spinal c...ord pressure. Now the patient’s #HMO #Prospect medical at Southern California Hospital at Culver City is claiming that the surgery was not emergency and the patient did not need emergent surgery and they are not going to pay for anything.. Again putting profits before patient care. How despicable and disgusting!!! The patient came to me on a wheelchair almost paralyzed and incontinent. Subsequent to the two surgeries I’m happy to report is able to stand up and take a few steps and his incontinence is improving. This is a remarkable miracle recovery. Every doctor knows that patients like this absolutely require postop spinal cord injury rehab facility not some nursing home. What’s worse now even they want to shove this patient into a nursing home which would be the end for him. This poor patient does not deserve gross negligence and below standard of the care medical treatment and going to some nursing home where he will not get proper care for spinal cord injury rehab I spoke to the medical director Dr. #JasonSchnack who told me that their neurosurgeon reviewed everything and felt the patient did not require immediate surgery . I told him how can his spine surgeon in good faith and ethically opine about a case when he has never spoken to me never examined the patient never saw the imaging studies above which was done as an outside facility and give his opinion like that. How is that not malpractice? This poor 80+-year-old patient does does not deserve that. He deserves ethical and compassionate care. I have asked Cedar Sinai to step up stand up with me and do the right thing and do not allow this patient to go to nursing home. Let’s see if #Cedars is going to come through. I would be grateful if everybody can call Prospect medical as well as Marina del Rey Cedar Sinai and ask them to transfer the patient to a spinal cord injury rehab facility so he can get the proper care and can walk again See more

Relief from severe #scoliosis is possible. While the goal is to help patients without #surgery, when it is needed, it's important to have a medical team with the knowledge and expertise to perform complex operations and follow through with care afterward.
