This Juneteenththe commemoration of the ending of slavery in the US is the ultimate day of recognition, education, and celebration as it is finally recognized as a federal national holiday. Many schools and other institutions are closing to honor this important independence day. Known by many names: Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865. That is when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas received an ord...er informing them they were finally free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. An SLP clinical supervisor who recently earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Cal State East Bay. She did her dissertation on special education focusing on the IEP process. Katy loves supporting clinicians and is inspired by their passion, creativity, and dedication to students and families. Her tip for all therapists and clinicians perhaps the world: Always keep a spare outfit in your car or desk. You never know when you might encounter projectile food or bodily fluid.
