At the sewing room, we offer ONLINE & In-Person Sewing and Fashion Classes for Enthusiasts ages 8 to Adult. We help build your Confidence through SEWING and FASHION - www.TheSewingRoomAlameda.com/classes Our instructors have experience with garment fit, construction, design in both the fashion industry as well costuming. We love to share our expertise with our students and believe that sewing is SUPER FUN! And it’s also a great skill that may save you money, challenge your ...brain and give you a terrific wardrobe. We love to help provide you with sewing supplies and stock a range of fabrics as well as tools and notions. You can view most of our supplies in our Etsy Shop Bonjour Teaspoon by Jennifer Serr, but are welcome to visit us in person, while wearing a mask. Additionally we offer SEWING MACHINE REPAIR AND SERVICE. The turn around time is two-three weeks for machine repair and service. General Service starts at $100 for mechanical machines & $125 for computerized models. Parts and Labor fees for repairs are additional. Please email to schedule a drop-off time or come by during our limited hours.

Mending Tips & Tricks: Seam Ripper Sometimes the best way to be able to reach an area to mend it is to open a nearby seam, especially if you are mending by machine. Yes, you will have to sew the seam back when you are done, but you get a gold star from me for taking on this kind of mending challenge and saving another garment from a landfill fate. There are two ways to use a seam ripper. If you have a small little section, you can send t...he long prong of the ripper under the first stitch or two until the seam starts to open. Then, holding your seam open with your opposite hand, poke your ripper under each thread bar until it cuts it open. (as shown) Be gentle as your go so that you don't stab your other hand. The next method is a bit faster and handy if your seam ripper has that little red ball on the short prong. First, pick out the first few stitches like above to get the seam open a bit. Then lay your project flat on a hard surface and hold it down with your free hand. Keeping the long prong on top and the short prong with the ball against the table, guide the seam ripper forward through the center of the seam. It will cut the thread bars as you go.
