Our first seed-to-table dinner was special on so many levels. The smokes cleared and we made space to get delicious and intentional about crafting nourishment that serves the long-term healing and regeneration of our bodies and these lands. We sourced food entirely from our biodynamic gardens at The Refuge and from our friend’s farms up the road: chestnut mushrooms from Dambacher Family Farms peppers and onions from Blue Oak Farm tomatoes from Outer Aisle Food Hub and CSA ... and chocolate ginger sheep milk ice cream from Wondernut Farm While our guests were seated at the table we were able to say things like: Yep, you’re sitting under the peach tree that is offering peaches for your desert! and Yep, none of this luscious polyculture existed 6 years ago! We assembled a fermentation plate that included seven different types of homemade ferments to nourish our guests’ gut microbiome (red cabbage and carraway, green cabbage and juniper berry, kimchi, fermented hot sauce, radish, chili garlic daikon, beets). We chatted with our guests about their deepening study in ancestral healing work with Daniel Foor and his Ancestral Medicine school, and about their process of reconnecting to ancestral earth-honoring ways before whiteness.
