Thanks to @speechwithrach for sharing this post! Super helpful HOW TO EXPAND PAST I WANT We all do it. We get stuck in the requesting cycle. Especially with our little learners and AAC kiddos, it can be easy to start with this common phrase and not know where to go from there. ... Language is all about FUNCTION. In reality, we could use the SAME material each session and talk about something totally different! (I would know because when I was broke AF in grad school, I really did use the same toys over and over) Let’s take this teddy bear for example, we can work on various language skills like: Requesting: asking for an item/desire Commenting: stating an opinion/fact Protesting: rejecting an item/activity Greeting: a sign of welcome/recognition We can use this SAME TOY to work on ALL of these skills. We don’t HAVE to stress out and buy worksheet specific items and games to target goals. We can adapt ONE toy to target VARIOUS functions. This shows our kiddos the importance of INTENT with their message and helps them understand language has MANY functions. #therapy #occupationaltherapy #speechtherapy #kids #psychology #physicaltherapy #pediatrictherapy #health #specialeducation #audiology #treatment #education See more

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a condition that exists when the brain is unable to integrate and process the sensory input it is receiving with appropriate responses. The signals get crossed and the responses get jammed. SPD affects children and adults and impacts everyone in different ways. During this month (and other months), we want to give our thanks and appreciation to those who work with kids with SPD! #therapy #occupationaltherapy #speechtherapy #kids #psychology #physicaltherapy #pediatrictherapy #health #education #spdmonth #sensoryprocessingdisorder

Thank you @kids_ot_hub for sharing this post! Dancing offers tons of benefits 1) Motor planning - working on planning and carrying out a motor act.... 2) Bilateral coordination - Moving the left and right sides of the body simultaneously in a coordinated manner. 3) Increase muscular strength - Building up strength in different muscles (upper, lower, core) of the body. 4) Spatial awareness - Working on body awareness and knowing how far or close to move to people/things around you. 5) Improves balance - Learning to find your centre of gravity as you spin, jump and making quick movements. #therapy #occupationaltherapy #speechtherapy #kids #psychology #physicaltherapy #pediatrictherapy #health #specialeducation #audiology #treatment #education See more

[Picture & caption credits: @otplan] Thank you for sharing this useful info! With most kids doing distance learning nowadays, parents seem to be more aware of the children's inability to maintain postural stability for longer periods of time. It is mostly challenging for kiddos with weak or poor core muscles. Weak core muscles will lead to poor posture, the need to move all the time in order to adjust their position, fatigue, and difficulty to focus and attend.... Engaging your child in activities that strengthen the core muscles and improve postural stability can be fun and playful! Try these activities and let us know which is your child's favorite **Please make sure to supervise your child/ren will performing any of the suggested activities. #therapy #occupationaltherapy #speechtherapy #kids #psychology #physicaltherapy #pediatrictherapy #health #specialeducation #audiology #treatment #success #career #education
