Nikolaus is on his way! St. Nicholas Day on December 6, is one of the many highlights of the Advent season. Children are eager to participate in the custom of putting out their polished shoes on the evening of Dec 5th, which are magically filled up with sweets and small gifts overnight. St. Nikolaus sounds a lot like Santa Claus Well actually St. Nikolaus is sometimes confused with Santa Claus because of what he wears and how he looks. Here are the differences: Santa Clau...s: Is an invented figure; Is only there to increase sales; Stands for consumerism. St. Nikolaus: Is the patron saint of seafarers and children; Is the one who helps those in need; Reminds good children and adults to do good deeds. Maybe this has inspired you to polish your shoes and put them outside your front door this year, in the hope that St. Nikolaus will pass by to fill them up!
