What do these four books have in common? They are all superbly written by the great Ron Chernow. For those who think history is boring... well, let’s put it this way, the popular Broadway show Hamilton is based on Mr. Chernow’s biography of that Founding Father. And the reason the show was based on the book is because it’s such a damn good story told by such a damn good storyteller. Yes, history thrills and engages, and we pay good money to watch it on Broadway, in theaters a...nd on our screens. And for those of you that believe history is in the past, well... think of what happened during the Hamilton show. Right or wrong, the cast of Hamilton addressed Vice President Mike Pence when he was in the audience. They did that because the story of their show from the 18th century relates to events of our 21st century. And if you don’t have time to read these books, well... that’s okay too. We read them and pair the genius of Mr Chernow and many other renowned, Pulitzer-prize winning storytellers with today’s news. The 1960 election can teach us much on to handle victory and loss in the 2020 election. Richard Nixon lost to John F. Kennedy by only 0.1% of the popular vote, a margin nearly 30 times smaller than President Trump's popular vote deficit to Mr. Biden now. What's more is that in many states, in which Nixon's campaign had evidence and affidavits of fraud, Nixon lost to Kennedy by low margins as well, some even narrower than in this 2020 election. Yet, the transition was graceful... in 1960, in fact exemplary. It should be noted that Mr. Nixon did not give up his ambitions. Eight years later he won the presidency.
