The Path Bike Shop 19.12.2020

What a year it has been. So many have experienced unprecedented heartache and loss via direct or indirect impacts of the global pandemic, social injustice, wildfires that ravaged millions of acres across the West, or other personal tragedy. We feel it, and feel for everyone who is struggling. Whether or not we've dealt with more challenges than usual on an individual level, one thing has tied us together this year: Every single one of us has had to adapt to a new way of livi...ng, making a living, doing business, recreating, and otherwise navigating our daily routines. We know these changes haven't come easily, but as we move into a new year, we are grateful for our friends and customers who continue to support The Path, and for our dedicated employees who have endured all the challenges and risks associated with serving the public during the COVID crisis. We're also appreciative of everyone's understanding and patience as we face mounting inventory shortages and other supply issues due to increased demand that caught us all off guard. Although the year was challenging, there were many bright spots, too, including the untold number of happy people who left our shops smiling under their masks thanks to the joy new bike day brings; seeing more kids and families riding together; witnessing new riders getting hooked on mountain biking; the unexpected fun of learning how to replace in-person events with virtual ones (more of these to come, stand by!); and of course, the bike boom spurred by a slower, simpler quarantine lifestyle that has had folks looking for ways to get out of the house...the list goes on! We are all still learning, and adapting, but we can finish 2020 off knowing that we've done our best, and at the very least, we'll come out on the other side more resilient, patient and thankful. Thank you for being the best community we could ask for. We wish you all joy, hope, and peace in the New Year. Keep pedaling and moving forward!

Trail update: UPDATED 12/12: Whiting Ranch is now OPEN with restrictions. The Borrego Parking Lot on Portola is still closed, as are the following trails/fire roads: Borrego Trail Mustard Road... Cattle Pond Loop Trail Red Rock Canyon Trail Billy Goat Trail Vista Lookout Road and Vista Lookout Water Tank Road between Tessera Avenue and Dreaded Hill Trail. We recently checked in with Jason Bennett, who serves as trail boss for Santiago Truck Trail and The Luge, to find out how the Bond Fire has impacted our trails and access in the Santa Anas. Here's what we've learned: 1) Santiago Truck Trail has been bulldozed/graded nearly the entire way to the flag to form a fire break/access road. 2) STT, Harding, and The Luge are all open, as of this morning, now that the Bond Fire is 100 percent contained. PLEASE NOTE: The bike lane on Santiago Canyon Road is still closed due to road construction, please be very cautious when climbing up to Modjeska Grade Road. 3)The gates at Maple Springs and Bedford Road remain closed. 4) According to Jason, the climb up STT is very, very soft. Orange County Parks are open. There is construction work happening soon, however, in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, closing the following parking lots: Willow Staging Area December 14-15th Big Bend Staging Area December 16-17th Dilley Staging Area December 18th Chino Hills and Crystal Cove State Parks are also now open. Enjoy this perfect riding weather!

We understand many have questions about damage to Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park from the #SilveradoFire. Fire crews continue to fight hot spots and perform mop-...up in the park. The park is closed until further notice, and it will be some time before we can make any assessments. This is still a very active incident and the park remains closed while fire crews continue their hard work. Please observe all closures and stay away from burn areas until hazards can be identified and removed. We will provide updates as we have information available. See more

Trail update: Folks, it's wet out there. Although Orange County Parks still has a few of its parks marked open, we're going to assume they're too muddy to ride based on how much rain we've received over the past couple of days. Crystal Cove State Park, Chino Hills State Park, and SkyPark Bike Park are also closed. Trails that don't officially close during storms, like the Luge, are also too muddy to ride as it's pouring rain in the canyons as we type this. Please use good judgment today. In a couple of days, conditions will be primo!

Trail update: Looks like Santiago Oaks, Irvine Regional and Peters Canyon @OCParks are closed today due to conditions. Whiting remains closed due to the Silverado Fire. Chime in if you know the status of Aliso and Laguna, these aren't marked closed on the OC Parks website. Please use good judgment as most trails are likely pretty muddy today.

Please stand by, we will announce the location of this week’s ride when things settle down and conditions are more agreeable. Thank you for your understanding!

The Path Bike Shop 30.09.2020

Trail Update: Santiago Canyon Road is open to residents only at this time, which means Blackstar, Luge, Harding, etc. are closed. O'Neill Park and Campground, and Whiting Ranch are also still closed. Looks like other Orange County Parks and Crystal Cove State Park are open, but Chino Hills State Park is closed. Be sure to check ocparks.com and state park sites before you go, as a Red Flag warning has been issued due to Santa Ana winds returning to the region later today, whi...ch may result in more park closures. Also, heads up that there will be some parking lots closed for maintenance work in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park over the next few weeks: Willow Staging Area December 14-15th Big Bend Staging Area December 16-17th Dilley Staging Area December 18th We will try to keep you updated here. Shop ambassador Josh Jacquot became a Path customer about two decades ago, and has officially ridden and raced for us for the past 15 years. Cross-country moves took Josh and his family from Orange County to Michigan, and most recently to Idaho, but Josh continues to represent The Path from his new hometown near Boise, where he’s been spending his free time exploring endless singletrack in his new backyard.
