HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR 2018 MOON MOUNTAIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON. Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Appellation: Moon Mountain District, Sonoma County.... Vineyard Elevation: 1,600 ft Oak: 16 months in 60% new French oak. Winemaker: Thomas Brown Tasting Notes: The 2018 Moon Mountain Cabernet is a dark opaque purple, with long viscous legs that stain the side of the glass. On the nose the wine shows a mix of savory herbs, fresh ripe berries and black plums. Lifted aromatics are both fresh and savory, exhibiting a slightly more coastal influence. The 2018 Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is sturdily structured and densely concentrated, with a heady mix of ripe blackberries, fresh sage, black plums, shaved graphite, cedar and milk chocolate. Don’t miss your opportunity to be a part of this first-ever release. STORY TIME: THE ORGIN OF THE KEY The vision for this winery began out of two names and a guiding idea, each intertwined with the other. The two names were Theorem and Voir Dire. Theorem is a truth established by a chain of reasoning and Voir Dire is Latin for to speak the truth. Each word holds a unique significance to our founders and the guiding idea that connects these two words is to seek and speak the truth. After a few iterations, we settled on the key ...as the visual representation of this idea. The key is the visual that we all understand for unlocking that which is locked. Since our inception, we have been on a quest to unlock the true potential of this historic estate. Today, the key is a subtle but consistent motif that threads through and connects our different branded material. From our Voir Dire and Hawk’s Prey bottles to our estate logo, which is a lock waiting for a key, the thread remains. It is a reminder that with the old or the new, the quest to uncover a sense of place in winemaking is key. #sculpture #bronze #bronzesculpture #keytosuccess #wineryart #key #keys #napavalley #calistoga #diamondmountaindistrict #visitnapavalley #visitcalistoga #wineryvisit #cabernet #cabernetsauvignon #napacab #estategrown #finewine #luxurywine #luxurybrand #luxurytravel #luxurytraveller See more

STORY TIME PART 2: The story of modern day Moon Mountain consists of a financial wizard, an iconic Napa winery and a San Francisco hippy. This part of the story begins in the late 1970s. To set the scene, this is when California wine is going through its own modern day revolution. At this time, Don Draper was exploring the potential of the Santa Cruz Mountains with his winery, Ridge, while a handful of Napa producers were just beginning to explore what their region was... capable of. In just a few years, at the Judgement of Paris, these young pioneers would shock the world. It was in this spirit that Mac McQuown and his team purchased the old Glen Ellen Vineyard, a 1,000 acre vineyard that was first planted in 1868 and gave the nearby town of Glen Ellen its name. Mac would then tap Jeff Baker to head up the winemaking end of the operation. John Mac McQuown is a true legend in the financial world. Jeff Baker, on the other hand, was the winemaker for the iconic Mayacamas Vineyard. When these two gentlemen teamed up and created Carmenet Winery, it was the first new winery in decades for this region. From there, this duo would go on to be the founders of @stoneedgefarmwinery . It was this first foray into the western slopes of Mayacamas, though, that would lead to other early producers such as Repris, Kamen, B Wise and Arrowood. And that eventually laid the framework for the modern day Moon Mountain District AVA. The last piece of this story is a man who connects all of these wineries and is a true sage in terms of the terroir of Moon Mountain - Phil Coturri. Of the 1,500 acres planted in the AVA, Phil farms a whopping 400 acres. Born in 1951, Phil grew up in the counter culture of 1960s San Francisco. It was the hippy ethos of living off the land that eventually led him to grape growing. Today, he is a leader in organic and biodynamic farming and has been involved in planting and farming many of Moon Mountain’s top vineyard sites as well as being an influential figure in the formation of the AVA itself. It is upon this foundation that we are proud to release our inaugural Moon Mountain Cabernet. See more

Attention to detail is a big key to success. One detail that is often overlooked in learning about wine is clonal selection. Not all Cabernet vines are created equal. The key is to match the right clone to the right site. For us, the combination of the Jenkins Clone paired with the Aikem Loam soil in our Hawk’s Prey Vineyard led to the creation of an amazing wine. So, what makes the Jenkins Clone so special? The Jenkins Clone is legendary in the wine industry. Like any... legend there can sometimes be a little bit of difficulty deciphering the facts from the mythology. The Jenkins clone originates from the famed Chateau Lafite. According to the legends, someone flew to Bordeaux, sneaked a cutting of a vine from the famed vineyard, and then smuggled it back in to the U.S., all while keeping it alive long enough to plant in a completely new home. Who this individual was remains a mystery. What is not unclear is that the Jenkins clone has been a huge success here in Napa Valley. The Jenkins Clone can be found in a number of top vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley and has been responsible for multiple 100-point wines. Our winemaker, Thomas Brown, had this to say about the Jenkins Clone, We have always loved working with this clone. There’s nothing quite like it in the world of Cabernet. It manages to be both exotic and wildly singular, while still coming across as very complete. When it was time to plant our Hawk’s Prey Vineyard in 2014, Thomas and our vineyard manager, Josh Clark, wanted to make sure that we had the best of the best for our site. And since the Jenkins Clone is known to do well in rockier sites, they knew that it would be a great fit for our Aiken Loam soils. 2018 Hawk’s Prey is only the third vintage from these young vines, but each vintage somehow manages to gets better and better. We think this is a great indication of a perfect match between site, clone, and winemaking practices. We are extremely excited to see how this vineyard progresses over the years. #estategrown #cabernet #cabernetsauvignon #napacab #limitedrelease #napavalley #calistoga #finewine #luxurywine #luxurybrand #mountainfruit #soil #terroir See more

Who has heard of the Wente Clone? While Livermore might not be the first region to come to mind when one thinks of California wine country, it is home to one of California’s most influential Chardonnay clones, the Wente Clone. The Wente Clone was first brought to California by Carl H. Wente in 1912 when he received clippings from Montepellier University in the south of France. That one clipping has gone on to father a number of different clones that populate some of Amer...ica’s top Chardonnay vineyards, including our Moon Mountain Vineyard. The Wente Clone produces great wines because of its small berries, thick skins, good mineral content, low sugar and bright acidity with luscious citrus flavors and sweet baking spice notes. These clonal characteristics, coupled with our growing site, and wine making practices make for an incredibly stunning, show-stopping Chardonnay bursting with citrus notes and bright, fresh acidity. Purchase our 2019 Moon Mountain Chardonnay beginning Tuesday, November 3rd, when it will be released to our mailing list. You can’t make great wine without great soil. Bordeaux couldn’t produce the same quality of wines without its gravel and clay soil, just as Champagne would not be as iconic without its limestone hills. For Theorem, it is our Aiken Loam soil that helps define the world-class wines that come from our Diamond Mountain Estate. The story behind our soils begin about 25 million years ago and involves some geology. Three tectonic plates all collided near modern day Southern ...California to create what geologist describe as a triple junction. This collision caused two of the tectonic plates to stop sliding underneath the North American plate and instead, this triple junction was pushed up the California coastline, leaving the San Andreas Fault Line in its wake. The movement of this triple junction, cut into the earth’s crust like a scalpel. This caused volcanic eruptions across California. Our Aiken Loam soils are a direct result of these ancient volcanic eruptions across the San Andreas Fault. Over the course of millions of years, these volcanic rocks were whittled down by years of rain and erosion. Today they make up the vast majority of our Diamond Mountain Estate. Many consider Aiken Loam to be the best soil for mountain viticulture because of its great drainage and low nutrients. In fact, it was the recognition of this soil type that first caught the attention of our vineyard manager Josh Clark and our winemaker Thomas Brown when we first took over the property. Great wines can only be made from A+ sites and the proliferation of Aiken Loam in our vineyards is just one more reason our 2018 Hawk’s Prey is so special. #coastalinfluence #estategrown #mountainfruit #limitedrelease #cabernetsauvignon #cabernet #napacab #napacabernet #diamondmountain #finewine #luxurywine #luxurybrand #winelover #winegeek #winenight #aikenloam

As mentioned before, you can’t make great wine without a great site. Moon Mountain carries a long history and incredible pedigree. Let’s take a look and see how our Moon Mountain Vineyard differs from our Diamond Mountain Estate and why it's the perfect spot to grow Chardonnay. Our Diamond Mountain Estate is a phenomenal location to grow Bordeaux varietals, but it is simply too hot to grow high quality Chardonnay. Our Moon Mountain Vineyard, on the other hand, actually... has dual maritime influences coming from both the Pacific Ocean and the San Pablo Bay. These dual influences cause temperatures to drop significantly in the night and throughout the early morning. This is a key element in growing grapes like Chardonnay. You want hot days, but you need cold nights to preserve the acidity in the grapes. While coastal influence can assist greatly with temperature, it can often present a challenge with getting enough sunlight to ripen the grapes since the coast is socked in with fog for most of the summer. This can make certain sites less than ideal for grape growing. Our Moon Mountain Vineyard, however, sits at 1,600 foot elevation. This is key because the fog line usually crests at 1,400 ft. That means that even if the valley below is blanketed in fog, our grapes are still getting abundant sunshine. These two elements combined with amazing soils make our Moon Mountain Vineyard an ideal spot to grow world-class Chardonnay. The elevation and orientation of our vineyard ensures that our vines receive the necessary sunlight to ripen completely, while the dual maritime influences drop the nighttime temperatures sufficiently to ensure that the grapes retain their acidity. That is why our Moon Mountain Chardonnay contains ripe tropical and citrus notes along with crisp refreshing acidity, making for a truly unique and beautifully crafted wine. #malolacticfermentation #chardonnay #boyzwhodrinkchardonnay #limitedrelease #estategrown #mountainfruit #moonmountaim #sonomacountywine #coastalinfluence #chardonnaylover #finewine #luxurywine #luxurybrand #winelover #winenight #winegeek

Did you know that the Diamond Mountain AVA is one of just two regions in all of Napa Valley that is influenced climatically by the Pacific Ocean? Here’s how it works. Our Diamond Mountain Estate is located at a low point along the Mayacamas Mountain Range. In addition to this, Mark West Creek has carved out small valleys through the hillsides that connects our site to the Santa Rosa plain. Every day oceanic breezes are sucked up the Russian River Valley, due to low press...ure created by inland heat. These oceanic breezes then travel across the Santa Rosa plain, up Mark West Creek and arrive at Theorem like clockwork, everyday around 2 pm. These breezes create longer hang times, a slower maturation of fruit, plus create a cooler micro climate that is often 10 degrees cooler than the valley floor. These coastal influences show themselves in the wines through higher acidity and silky tannins. If you have ever had the pleasure of enjoying our Hawk’s Prey, you know that it encapsulates all of the power of Napa Valley, along with silky tannins and bright fresh acidity that is a direct result of this coastal influence. Weather alone doesn’t make great wine, the soil and the vines are also play an important role. We will take a look at both over the next few days. #coastalinfluence #estategrown #mountainfruit #limitedrelease #cabernetsauvignon #cabernet #napacab #napacabernet #diamondmountain #finewine #luxurywine #luxurybrand #winelover #winegeek #winenight See more

First and foremost, we want to say thank you! We have been overwhelmed by the thoughts and prayers of so many during the Glass Fire that devastated parts of the Napa Valley last week. As we reopen, we are reflecting on how much our community has been impacted by these fires. For the team at Theorem, it was touch and go for a while. But by the grace of God and the tireless efforts of firefighters, we managed to emerge unscathed from the fires. The Glass Fire is now 70%... contained and smoke is no longer laying heavy in the air. Our hearts go out to all of our neighbors and colleagues who can’t simply dust off the fallen ash to move forward. But Napa is a strong and resilient community with a history of working together to overcome challenges. At Theorem, we have decided to use this platform to highlight some of our neighbors whose business were damaged in the fire and the efforts they are taking to rebuild. We will also be sharing ways to help and where damaged wineries will be holding tastings. We are all in this together and we look forward to seeing everyone rise up and push through. So come on out to visit your favorite wineries and enjoy this beautiful weather or contact them to place your orders today! See more

2018 DIAMOND MOUNTAIN MERLOT TASTING NOTES BELOW. The 2018 Diamond Mountain Merlot shows perfumed aromas of perfectly ripe plums and coco powder that waft seductively upwards. This is followed by hints of wild herbs, fresh black raspberries and cedar. On the palate the wine is soft and lush. Velvety tannins give the wine structure, while a bright backbone of acidity gives it length and finesse. The wine glides to an elegant finish of tart blackberries and wild herbs ...that lingers well past the last sip.
