Last year it was Noah Domingo at UC Irvine, age 18. Last week it was Dylan Hernandez at San Diego State University. He was 19. They both died after going to fraternity parties. San Diego State University immediately suspended 14 fraternities after Dylan’s death. But nine of them were already under suspension or investigation. So suspension does too little and too late. The frats commonly reopen after the suspensions anyway. And the hazing, alcohol and deaths start all... over again. SDSU has already started task forces to understand the problems of fraternities with drinking and hazing. But SDSU can save their time and money on task forces. They can easily read the results of hundreds of other fraternity investigations. Young men crave belonging to a peer group of other young men. And if their frat brothers drink their way through college, so will they (80% of fraternity members binge drink. every week). There is ancient wisdom that warns, Don’t be deceived. Bad company corrupts good character. If you are a parent and think about sending your son to a fraternity, let Noah and Dylan talk you out of it.
