"On this Day of Epiphany, Christians remember that the Magi guided by a divine light visited the Christ Child bearing gifts and their souls. Let us pray for the divine light of Christ to manifest the fullness of his righteousness in this our moment of darkness. The protests against the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that have escalated to violence at the US and at the California state capitals are truly an expression of darkness based on deception and fear-mongerin...g. As people committed to a civil society and a democratic process of governance, this is not the way to express differences of opinion. It certainly is not the way to be as people of faith. Let us pray for our broken society and recommit to being followers of Christ who is the Light of the World." -Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño

Should the church be involved in politics? How should I respond to an issue that concerns me? How can I talk about political issues with others who disagree?
What about separation of church and state? Does the United Methodist Church have a lobbying office in Washington D.C.? What can I do if I disagree with an official position of the United Methodist Church? Are we to respect leaders with whom we disagree?
It's not the same without an 11pm Christmas Eve candlelight service is it? Get your candle and listen to this hour of Christmas carols featuring past footage of our LUMC choir singing on Christmas Eve. The video culminates with a sing-a-long Silent Night and shows images of past Christmas Eve Silent Night moments. Special thanks to videographer and soundtech of many years, David White.
United Methodists pray for all leaders who serve the public and we take seriously our responsibility to create a more peaceful and just world.

Apparently, someone liked our large "Black Lives Matter To God," banner so much that they took it! No worries. This gave us the opportunity to clarify that not only do Black lives matter to God, Black lives are LOVED by God. Another BIGGER banner is currently in production. Look for it on Moraga Road soon!

As we arrange and re-arrange plans for the Thanksgiving holiday, remember that God remains with us in all circumstances. Turn to gratitude. Accept limits. Cultivate joy where you are. Show love through safe practices. Give thanks.
There is a story in the Bible about wise and foolish young women and the big take away in that story is that God continues to be our light both when we are foolish as well as when we are wise. Be kind to yourself and others in the days ahead. Keep your lamp a trimmed and burning, friends.
What about separation of church and state? Does the United methodist Church have a lobying office in Washington D.C.? What can I do if I disagree with an official position of the United Methodist Church? Are we to respect leaders with ehom we disagree?
Be email vigilant! When church members innocently forward chain emails from a friend-of-a-friend or "reply all" to emails, thieves seeking to do financial harm will use the first part of a church member's email address with a different email provider to "spoof" the church member's email and lead you to believe the request is legitimate. If you have any suspicions of a false communication sent in the name of someone you know, check it out through another means of communication. https://conta.cc/330VlUT

Your spiritual leaders of Lafayette UMC continue to monitor the data regarding the status of county health and the guidelines for sheltering in place. At this time, it would be unsafe for people to gather for in-person worship on the LUMC campus. Our on-demand online worship services continue on our YouTube channel and the Sunday worship service now launches at 7am to meet the needs of early risers! For questions or concerns, please reach out to the church office by phone or email. https://cchealth.org//0629-Postpone-COVID-19-Reopening-Tim
