1970s designer poly jersey maxi dress. Very interesting story behind this very interesting dress. In the 1970s controversial Dutch oil dealer John Deuss launched a New York line of designer evening dresses, Alexandra Christie. And here is one-1970s polyester jersey wrap gown with large prong set rhinestones sewn along the bodice. Plunging neckline to waist. Unusual draping hem shape with rhinestones along the bottom as well. Bust-32-34 but you can show as much cleavage as yo...ur heart desires. Waist stay inside putting waist at 26 Hips-open for as much leg action as you dare. Length is 37 to highest point and 51 to longest. Shoulder to waist is 18. Belt is not included, just add your favorite. Small hole at hem and pinholes at waist. None noticeable when worn. SOLD but a bit of history I think needs to be known about the origin of this fine golden glittering garment. American occupation forces landed at Yokosuka on August 30, 1945, after the surrender of Japan, and the naval base has been used by the US Navy since that time. An article in the magazine "Our Navy" (1 Oct. 1958) described Yokosuka as "a city unlike any in the world--as exciting as Paris, as exotic as Hong Kong, and as mysterious as the Casbah. A sailor's greatest fe...ar while over seas was getting a "Dear John" letter from his girlfriend. And it seemed that the best way not to get one was to mail home something really nice and expensive. Can you picture a naval officer sending this home to his wife or sweetheart, and it ending up in NY where I found it? And on a side note-The roots of the very collectible Souvenir Jacket, or Sukajan in Japanese, can be traced back to American soldiers stationed around Yokosuka following the end of World War II.
