Meet Demetric Demetric is the Fox Theater’s Maintenance Coordinator, and has been working at the Fox since 2016.... My favorite part about working at the Fox is working show days and fixing any issues that prevent my fellow workers from getting their job done. The thing I miss most is seeing and talking with my Facilities Manager, Anthony. Money has been tight so I’ve had to look for jobs in industries that won’t be affected by things like this. It has opened up a lot more free time to work on my music and art which is always a plus, but I’m not getting paid to do that. - Demetric The independent concerts industry is in grave danger of permanent closures without federal and local aid, and thousands of people are out of work. He's the House Lead at the Fox Theater.... My favorite part about working at the Fox is the camaraderie with the other staff. Being a house guy you float around so much and interact with people from every department. Although our roles differ we all share the common goal of putting on an awesome show while showing off our venue. Some of these people I've known for the better part of a decade, so there really is a sense of family at work there. And when you spend as much time at the venue as I do, especially in the busy season, it really becomes your home away from home. So there's a sense of pride when we open those front doors. Meet Joonbug the incredible Oakland-based visual artist who approaches illustration and design with a quirky wit and hand-styled technique that give his work vibrant soul and character. We were lucky enough to have Joonbug work on the murals that currently live on the exterior of the Fox Theater, and asked him to say a few words on these stunning pieces. My work exudes 80/20 subconscious/conscious of my observations and ever expanding understanding of the world in and arou...nd me. Through the indirect method, I introduce narratives, as real as I see them, and allow the viewer to understand through the sum of their own experiences. These specific figures are called "Birds" and they represent the visual narratives of the Black Diaspora experiencing freedom, much like an uncaged bird. The City of Oakland has mandated the closure of all city-owned facilities with a capacity exceeding 1000, as a response to the recommendations of CDC and health officials relative to COVID-19.
