#FunFactFriday The Colorado River established its course through the canyon about six million years ago and likely evolved from pre-existing drainages to its current course. Geologic processes, including erosion of tributaries and slopes, and active tectonics continue to shape the canyon today. The geologic record represented in the strata is a visual timeline which is responsible for the canyon's inspirational scenery. - Grand Canyon National Park Tony Foster painted the artwork, "From West of Navajo Point Looking West" on site May 23, 2013.

We hiked into the canyon, spent the night lying on rocks in pouring rain without tents, and emerged the following night with a pathetic, unresolved painting. I was hooked! Since that first miserable journey, I have spent many months in the canyon, often with Bill; walked hundreds of miles of its trails; and painted many pictures. This painting is in homage to Bill Brace my friend, travelling companion, and guide Tony Foster

Late Bill Brace, a legend in rock physics, was the luminary chosen by Tony Foster for his Grand Canyon painting. Brace was Chairman Emeritus of the Dept of Earth and Planetary Sciences at MIT and a traveling companion of Foster's for decades. Check back in on Saturday to see the artwork that Tony Foster painted in honor of Bill Brace.
