Meet Nellie! She's a sweet (super sized) pittie mix. She is a big girl and will require someone that understands dogs (Bully breeds a plus) to welcome her into their home. She's lower energy, but would thrive with 1-2 mile walks in the morning. When she's at home, she can lounge around and just relax. She does best with lower energy dogs or older dogs. She does not do well with small animals. She is a beautiful, big gal and receives so many compliments on how beautiful she is. If you're looking for a girl to add into your life, Nellie may be the one! Apply on our website!
It's heartbreaking when we see cases like this... This poor guy arrived at the shelter after being picked up from a parking lot with severe damage to his eyes. His right eye has completely ruptured and his left eye has severe infection that needs to clear up in order to understand the full extent of the damage. Our vet called us this morning to let us know they suspect head trauma... They want to take x-rays of his skull as he is in considerable pain despite being on opiods. We know times are tough and with all that is happening to the world, we understand giving may be difficult... But with your help, we hope to bring a little light and joy into this one creatures life. Please donate what you can via venmo @thedogcafe_la or PayPal.me/thedogrescue

Today we woke up to a phone call from the vet calling us to let us know Reptar had passed away. They did everything to help her, but just aren't sure why she had such a sudden decline. She was eating and playing just a few days ago, and in less than 48 hours she is now gone. This part of rescue absolutely sucks. But we want to thank you all for your love and support and @girlandrescue for loving her during her short time on this Earth. Goodbye Reptar. We love you.
We're looking for fosters to help with mama dogs and their babies. Please DM us if you can commit to 2 months of caring for a mama dog and her babies!

All dogs are special, but some are just a little extra special. Meet Hero, one of those extra special dogs. He wears an invisible cape and only those with special hearts can see that. We first met Hero through a picture (with all the shelters shutting their doors, we don't get to meet the dogs before we've already committed to rescuing them). In that picture all you could see was a sweet little face. The shadows and low quality photo hid what was underlying. When we soon foun...d out his medical condition, we knew he needed out pronto. According to the shelter staff, it is assumed he has burns caused by chemicals. Somebody went out of their way to intentionally purchase and intentionally throw chemicals on this poor soul before abandoning him out on the streets to feel the pain all alone. Our hearts were shattered, just imagining the lonely nights this guy had to spend with such painful open wounds. When we arrived at the shelter and Hero was brought to us, we could feel his sadness. His head would barely lift off the floor as his eyes stared right back. He showed very little interest in who his transporter was and was obviously extremely depressed. He made the hour long trip in complete silence. After he arrived at our facility you could see a little sparkle in his eye. He quickly went from the sad little pup to a curious one and within an hour he was trotting around, albeit cautiously, approaching people for a quick sniff before making his getaway. Within a few hours he had completely, although still cautious, you could see his heart had completely opened up. He was ready to put his trauma behind him and open to learning what adventures his new life was going to hold. Dogs are amazing creatures. They truly hold the key to living in complete presence. Regardless of his past, Hero knew he has ended up right where he is supposed to be with the people that are committed to caring for him to ensure he will not only regain his healthy, but also help find his forever family. Thank you to all of our foster and adoptive families, our generous donors, and everyone that has supported the cafe and it's rescue mission. You all make rescuing dogs like Hero possible.
Meet some of our adoptable dogs (as of April 2)! 1. Penelope is a female American Staffie. She's about a year old, long & lanky, and has such a sweet yet playful spirit. She loves people and other dogs, and if you can't tell.. she really knows how to work her angles. 2. Vinnie is a husky/lab mix. He's got such a beautiful and unique look and has eyes that are so piercing. He truly believe he's a lap dog. He's fairly laid back and wants a lap to call his own! 3. Melbourne is ...a blue tick Australian Cattle Dog. When he was at the shelter, he was way too scared and shaking. Now that he's out, he's got a pep in his step and ready to take on whatever comes his way. He loves head scratches and knowing he's got people to have his back. 4. Marbles. Wow. She's a gorgeous Dalmation Pibble mix. She is such a show stopper and her personality doesn't dissapoint. She's so incredibly sweet and loving and just looking for a home to call her own! 5. Bianca is a gorgeous, mild mannered gal. She's ready to relax and hang out with you, or go on a nice stroll! She's already kennel trained and so well behaved. If you're looking for a beautiful pup to seamlessly join your life, beautiful Bianca is your gal! 6. Goldie is such a beautiful soul. We believe she's half corgi half cattle dog. She's quiet, gentle, and very loving. Her favorite things are being brushed and told how beautiful she is. She is a perfect apartment medium sized dog. Fun fact is Goldie only has half a tail! 7. Major and his underbite want to give you all the best dog saliva facials. Poor Major was returned to the shelter after he was adopted 6 months prior, but now he's looking for his final forever home! He's the ultimate love bug! 8. Millie is a 5 month old lab (possibly mini Dane) mix. She's so sweet and loving, but will definitely need some direction and training to help her navigate the big world. She's got all the excited puppy energy and kisses you've been looking for. See more
Bored during quarantine? Want to use this time to make a positive impact from home? We're looking for committed volunteers to help out with rescuing and finding forever homes for dogs, right from your computer! If you are email savvy, love communicating with people, and want to make a positive impact, please send us a DM!
Shelters are still accepting dogs into their system while closing their doors to the public. Big dogs need the most help. DM us if you're interested in fostering a large dog!
