The Sound of 2 Square Blocks Pomona has been the unsung lynchpin in the musical history of the Inland Empire, drawing from the eastern most cities in the IE and opening its arms as the home of so many artists and musicians. In conjunction with Margaret Aichele and on behalf of The dA Center for The Arts in Pomona, California, I am piecing together the hidden history of the downtown Pomona music scene over the course of the last 75 years. We are beginning this project by cha...rting the history of music from the architecture that runs from From Park to Gibbs and first street down to 3rd. The Sound of 2 square blocks. Over the course of decades there have been a myriad of music venues that have birthed scenes, supported scenes and drawn in artists from near and wide. The Pomona Valley Auditorium, Munchies, 51 Buckingham, The Mayflower, Robbies, The Haven, Characters, The dA, The Glasshouse and other music venues (including the fabled practice studio on 1st, the old Jazz club from 60 years back that we are trying to pinpoint). These houses of sound are the point of origin for us as we map this project over the next few years. If you owned, operated or have memories of these or other venues in this radius, we are looking for your input. We look forward to your input and help with this dream project. - Dennis Callaci Email - [email protected]. See more
