Recognizing the critical work that farm and food processing employees are performing under unprecedented circumstances, Housing for the Harvest--a state program providing temporary hotel housing options--will provide much-needed assistance to help safeguard workers and their families from the spread of COVID-19. The Community Foundation of San Joaquin -- in partnership with University of the Pacific, Benerd College -- is pleased to offer a professional development opportunity for mid to upper-level management employees working at nonprofits in San Joaquin County. The Nonprofit Leadership Certificate Program is a four-month long, cohort program tailored to the unique needs of the nonprofit sector and taught by experts in the field. Courses will be offered virtually and in-person. We ...invite interested organizations to apply for a Learning Grant that will underwrite the full cost for one individual from their organization to participate in the program. A total of up to ten individuals from local nonprofit organizations will be approved for a Learning Grant. No more than one individual from a single nonprofit may receive a Learning Grant. The Community Foundation of San Joaquin is incredibly grateful to receive a $1 million dollar gift from Financial Center Credit Union and the Michael Duffy Family Fund to support the Stockton Strong COVID-19 relief efforts. The Community Foundation of San Joaquin is pleased to announce that professional football player, Brandin Cooks--wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams--and his wife Briannon, announced a gift of $50,000 to establish the Stockton Children’s Fund. The Fund’s immediate focus will be to help mitigate the disruptive effects caused by the COVID-19 health crisis related to food insecurity, childcare services for essential workers, and education challenges resulting from school closures. Brandin Cooks is a Stockton native and a graduate of Lincoln High School-Stockton, Ca.

We are pleased to share that Reyna DeKasha, has been promoted to the position of Director of Donor Services at The Community Foundation of San Joaquin. In her new position, Reyna will manage strategic donor relationships and oversee a portfolio of work that includes donor stewardship, donor cultivation, fiscally sponsored events and programs, and related marketing and communications. For the past year, Reyna has served as Operations and Programs Manager at the Community Foundation. Reyna began her professional career in the banking industry, most recently serving as Assistant to the VP Regional Manager at Tri Counties Bank. Congratulations, Reyna!
We are pleased to welcome our newest team member, Louis Ponick, to The Community Foundation of San Joaquin. Louis will be joining us as our Grants and Scholarships Manager, administering the Foundation’s portfolio of giving, which includes: donor-advised and agency funds, discretionary grantmaking, and scholarship funds. Prior to joining The Community Foundation of San Joaquin, Louis served as Assistant Dean for Development at the University of the Pacific’s School of Engineering and Computer Science. Prior to his time at Pacific, he served as Director of Major and Planned Gifts at the PETA Foundation in Berkeley, CA, and as CEO of the Save-Mart Employee Association in Modesto, CA. He has a B.A. from Sonoma State University and an M.B.A. from C.S.U. Sacramento.
On Friday, November 14 the Community Foundation of San Joaquin and the Stockton Heat partnered together for the Harry Potter Sock Toss. We were able to collect 2357 socks to distribute to local nonprofit organizations. Thank you Child Abuse Prevention Council SJC for sending volunteers to help pick up the socks.
