We’re so proud of student Madeleine F. on the creation of her COVID memorial quilt to remember the many lives lost to the virus. To read more about Madeline’s work, be sure to check out her website CovidQuilt2020.com and recent feature in People Magazine.

While we may not be able to physically gather this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, the Buckley Service Program was able to organize a no-contact, COVID-cautious volunteer opportunity to give back to the community in the spirit of service and racial justice. Buckley is partnering with local non-profitThe Valley of Change to help neighbors in need during the pandemic. On MLK Day, The Valley of Change will distribute 400 meals to the unhoused and other neighbors in need. For more information on how to sign up, visit the link in our bio!
Today our Head of School Alona Scott released an Update to our goals for becoming an anti-racist community, released in August. We are committed to digging more deeply, thoughtfully, and persistently into this work. Read the update and more about our commitment at the link in our bio.

Last Friday, close to 60 Upper School students participated in our theater and dance department’s annual World Dance Workshop! This year it was virtual, hosted by our dance faculty, Laura Bamford and Brittany Daniels, along with world-renowned professional dancers. Throughout the day, students took master classes in West African dance with Makeda Kumasi, Hula with Joselyn Arciaga, and Middle Eastern Bellydance with Shannon Lewallen. ... The goal of the WDW is to give students an immersive day of cultural and artistic diversity through dance. By taking these classes, dance students deepen their understanding of the way dance helps to define and connect people within their own culture, as well as the ways dance connects people across cultures, socioeconomic differences, gender, and personal identities. Thank you to our incredible teachers and guests for taking Buckley’s WDW virtual! #buckley #buckleyschool #buckleyathome

Passion Projects are a-go! Eighth graders AJ S. and Matías G. started a business for their passion project, Fun Fitness For Kids. They offer fun, free classes to kids and kids at heart on their YouTube channel. In their own words, We believe everyone deserves to exercise even during these difficult times. We are trying to find the pleasurable side of fitness; and while there may be a sore muscle or two along the way, the benefits of fitness are worth the discomfort. So proud of AJ and Matías for keeping us healthy and motivated! Check out their exercise videos at the link below! #buckley #thebuckleyschool https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1lSlEkqj3VPhYPXjuE8hdA
