Hello friends, due to the ongoing crisis we will be offering free loaves of bread Friday May 22 in Berkeley at our location at 1615 University Ave We are preparing 200 loaves and bread is first come first served from 8am-12pm or until we run out. Face covering required and we will have social distance rules in effect.
The Bread Project has over 2,000 graduates of its bakery and food service training and job placement program in the Bay Area. With many of them laid off due to COVID-19, we are ensuring they have food and supplies for themselves and their families, and we are preparing to help them find new jobs and get back to work as quickly as possible as the pandemic slows. The Bread Project serves the most vulnerable who are motivated to acquire new skills and get a job. All program pa...rticipants are low-income, and nearly 80% unemployed when entering the program and receiving some form of Public Benefits. They face many barriers to employment: lack of permanent housing (68%), minimal education (64% have HS/GED diploma only), English is second language (25%), prior incarceration (24%), various disabilities (37%), and immigrants or refugees (20%).Please join us in supporting them through this crisis and until they are gainfully employed again!
