Posted @withregram @privtoprog @jemelehill Yesterday, @michellesaahene and I (@thewildsister) recorded an interview for @nbaontnt with the incredible disruptor @carichampion (Thank you, Cari!). We talked about the calls for unity. And as I said on that interview, and will repeat as long as it takes, there can be no unity without acknowledgment, understanding, and intentional action to remake our systems that were built on white supremacy. That’s a foundational human co...nceptin personal relationships and in society, no problems are ever corrected without doing the work to repair the wrongs. #ShowUp PS the show airs Monday on @nbaontnt! . . [image description: tweet by Jemele Hill on an orange background that reads, When pretty much every American institution has deep, racist histories that were never adequately addressed, and allowed to persist, this is what you get. This idea that racism was simply going to fade with time without any real work done always was woefully naive.] . . #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #Whiteness #BodyTerrorism

In @SonyaReneeTaylor's video posted this morning, she analyzes current debates about whether Trump would be able to run for office in 2024 and dismantles the idea that white folks wouldn't vote for him again. She discusses how white folks will never understand the full malevolent extent of white violence due to swimming in the ocean of whiteness, emphasizing the need for white folks to listen to Black, Indigenous, and other groups of people of color to better view whiteness' ...terrain. As Sonya tells us, "If you are white, whatever you think white people not gonna do, they've already done it." Whiteness, she reminds us, relies on calculated historical amnesia (including immediately after violent events) to continue to operate and maintain the myth of white innocence. As such, we must not fool ourselves about the ongoing threat of white supremacist violence after January 20th. Dismantling the societal sickness of white supremacy takes white folks' ongoing labor and attention. There's unfortunately no quick or magic fix. Video below. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKD6-XHAZhm/ . . [image description: image featuring a quote by Sonya Renee Taylor in dark green font against a white background on the left-hand side and a photo on the right-hand side. The quote reads, "[I]f you are white, and someone is asking you about the possibility or probability of what other white people might do, just start from the place that you probably don't actually know. You can't conceive the full of scale of it. You can't. Because you're in the water, you can't know the full size of the ocean ... But people who have been slapped by some waves can tell you how hard the waves are on top, right? They can tell you how rough the sea is." The photo on the right features a person with light skin emerging from the ocean in mid-motion, throwing their head back as their dark wet hair obscures their face. Ocean spray flies everywhere.] . . #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #Whiteness #BodyTerrorism

We love this!! Thank you for the shout-out, @feministbookclubbox! Preorder your new edition of Sonya’s book at the link in our bio Posted @withregram @feministbookclubbox Our February theme is FAT LIBERATION and we couldn't be more excited to announce that our book of the month is the revised and expanded second edition of an already wonderful book... THE BODY IS NOT AN APOLOGY by Sonya Renee Taylor... Head to our website to see our membership options! www.feministbookclub.com About this book: Humans are a varied and divergent bunch with all manner of beliefs, morals, and bodies. Systems of oppression thrive off our inability to make peace with difference and injure the relationship we have with our own bodies. The Body Is Not an Apology offers radical self-love as the balm to heal the wounds inflicted by these violent systems. World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. As we awaken to our own indoctrinated body shame, we feel inspired to awaken others and to interrupt the systems that perpetuate body shame and oppression against all bodies. When we act from this truth on a global scale, we usher in the transformative opportunity of radical self-love, which is the opportunity for a more just, equitable, and compassionate world--for us all. . . [image description: photo featuring the new edition of Sonya Renee Taylor’s book The Body Is Not an Apology, which features Sonya lying on purple and green flowers that resemble butterfly wings, clad in nothing but strategically placed purple petals, with an orange gerbera daisy behind her head like a divine halo. The book features a foreword by Ijeoma Oluo and the following quote by Brene Brown: This book took my breath away. It’s an unexpected and urgent embrace of truth. The book is on a white wooden background. On the right-hand side of the image is the text FEBRUARY BOOK REVEAL in white on a fuchsia background.] . . #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #SonyaReneeTaylor #bookstagram

In her most recent "What's Up, Y'all?" video, titled "A coup is not the time for business as usual!", @SonyaReneeTaylor reflects on how the US Congress reconvened to certify President-elect Joe Biden's electoral college victory just hours after they narrowly survived the coup attack at the Capitol. Sonya discusses how these events are part of a larger (white supremacist, capitalist, toxic masculine) US culture that glorifies overwork while minimizing the necessity of processi...ng and healing from trauma. She identifies the abusive patterns implicated in these dynamics and calls on us to ask ourselves, "Where is that system operating in [me]?" https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJ6k18VABns/ . . [image descriptions: grey-scale photo of three American flags with the following quote by Sonya Renee Taylor overlaying the photo in white: "All of us are inside of an abusive relationship where we just want to go back and ... smooth over the violence that just happened, right? By returning to some semblance of normalcy without ever having actually dealt with the trauma that we experienced or the causes of the violence in the first place."] . . #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #BodyTerrorism

Posted @withregram @wercalifornia We believe in us. We believe in democracy. The 1.6.21 attack was an attack on our democracy by right-wing militants who refused to honor an election that had record voting by Black, Brown, Asian, Indigenous, and new voters. We must thwart white supremacy by making this country a true democracy, where the will of the people determines the actions of our leaders and where our government cares for us all.... . . . True to our name: the body is not an apology. Please read original caption / see original post Posted @withregram @greekgoddess416 . Eight is the amount of times I’ve been reported this week - and it’s only Thursday. Eight is the amount of times I’ve received the dreaded your account is at risk of being deleted message. ... This photo was reported and removed before - I appealed and it was reposted. It was reported again and I didn’t have the option to appeal the second time around. Yet if you swipe, you will see that @instagram allows these photos to be posted/stay up. These women are beautiful, their bodies are art. So why isn’t my body viewed the same? Why isn’t my fat body art? And before you say it’s because I have haters reporting my posts - I know a few people that reported these two posts (sorry ladies) just to see what happens, and @instagram said they do not go against community guidelines. So, let’s see what happens when I post this photo a second time around. If showing nipple and/or a full body nude is okay, why is this not? Is it because I’m not thin? Not verified? What is it @instagram - please, explain to me what the difference is between these photos? My request to all of you is to please save and share this post. Share this message. Share the unfairness that is happening on this platform. We need to be loud and clear that their community guidelines are bullshit when it only applies to certain groups of people. . .
