We only lost my dad, Jim Howe, ten days ago, although it feels like forever. Dad taught us that seeing beauty in the small things in life is what matters most. He also taught us that even when we are in pain, a positive attitude and smile can go a long way. On this day of GIVING THANKS, that is what I am choosing to do. I’m THANKFUL for the seemingly small gestures that mean so very much-the kind words, phone calls, texts, sweet cards, flowers, meals, and thoughtful gifts ...that have been given to our entire family. I’m THANKFUL that my dad was an educator for 37 years and was able to affect so many lives with his kind heart and gentle soul. I’m grateful that there are so many people who will keep my dad’s memory alive because while he was a wonderful dad and teacher, he was an even more amazing human being. I’m THANKFUL that my parents have been an important part of this community for 40 years and that this same community is taking such good care of my family, especially my mom Bev, when we all need it the most. I’m THANKFUL that we decided to open a business in our small town where everyone is welcome and it feels comfortable and relaxed like your own backyard at home. I’m THANKFUL that my dad was able to see the beer garden being developed every step of the way, from an empty lot to an open venue, and that he could tell my husband, Russell, how proud he was of him. I’m glad that my dad was able to enjoy one gorgeous afternoon there with a smash burger, cold beer, his family, wearing his BY merch and a smile on his face. This year may not look the way that we want it to, but there is always someone and something to be thankful for...I know that I am THANKFUL for every little moment that I had with my dad and how all of those little moments have had a huge impact on my life. A huge shout out to A Heavenly Home LLC. for continuing to find creative ways to make holidays safe and fun for their residents during this time. Last year, we took our daughter and nephew to trick or treat at A Heavenly Home as their good deed for the day. Little did we know that less than a year later, Dad would be one those residents needing some joy brought to him by kiddos. We were so impressed that the wonderful owners and employees were able to put together such a special, outdoor trick or treating parade that included decorations, candy, a corn maze, photo ops, and even funny ears for the residents. What an amazing place!

Happy Oktoberfest! This annual tradition typically would have taken place in Munich, Germany Sept. 19 - Oct 4. Unfortunately, the event was canceled this year due to COVID-19 but that’s not stopping us from keeping the tradition alive and well! From today through Sunday, October 4, we will have decorations and imported German beer on draft (available in 1 liter steins). You might even hear some Polka music! Come celebrate with us. Prost!
